Remember last week when I talked about Antique Mora clocks??? Well, mine finally arrived!! I’m soooo excited to share it with you all!
First off, I was invited by Simone at Antique Style to share about antique mora clocks over at her blog. I am so excited to have been invited for my first ever guest post! I just love her blog. This beautiful antique Swedish mora clock is from around 1800. It is a Fryksdall style clock painted in beautiful gold and black!
It is handpainted in black with gold chinoiserie detailing. I think the chinoiserie goes well with the chinoiserie tulipiere I have on the bottom right. Please note, I hate the wall color here but I am renting and can’t paint it.

The face on the clock is really nice… it has the coveted “AAS Mora” on the face which makes it worth more. I like it’s little crown over the face too!

Let’s take a closer look at the chinoiserie painting and the details..
A look at the bottom… I like the scroll work with the little shell at the bottom.
Let’s take a look inside… what’s in there? Oh, the chime! It is made of solid wood.
To be honest, black was not my first color choice for a mora clock. But it was cheaper than the other clocks and I really liked its shape. I really wanted a pretty gray/blue but those ones were a lot pricier.
So, I have considered painting it because it wasn’t my original color choice… we will see, I will decide once I move to my new home and find it’s final place to put it. I would feel bad painting it if it is the original paint though… I can’t 100% tell if it has its original paint. There is a light gray paint underneath but I don’t know if that’s just an undercoat or not.

I love your clock. It's really a master built piece from years past that's so hard to find today. As to painting it, no, I would not paint it. I love the black and gold. It's lovely!
I am going to keep the original color now… I have decided I will only paint it *if* the black and gold is not it's original color. I will need to do a little more snooping on the unpainted underparts to determine that.

Keep your eyes open, don't forget if it's a color you don't like you could paint it
Oh what a lovely clock! In my opinion it would be a crime to paint it. It has stood the test of time all these years and looks wonderful. The black is classic with the chinoiserie design and the value of it as an antique will be destroyed if it's painted. I hope you'll keep it just the way it is 🙂 Visiting from Share Your Style.

Oh, it is gorgeous! No, I would definitely not paint it!!!! It is classic and plays well with your MacKenzie-Childs. It is a lovely Chinoiserie piece. My vote is: No, to the painting. '-)
Right now the black doesn't quite match the color in the rest of the room… but I'm moving soon and I can always move some other pieces (or buy some more!!) to match it!
"doesn't match the colors in the rest of the room"? It's a classic! like the little black dress. A touch of black goes with everything. No, No, No DO NOT PAINT IT. IT's A TREASURE. Colors and styles change but, a classic with remain.
This is true, black can go with everything. The other colors in the room are cream and lighter colors, with cream dominating. The black is just a completely different look, that is what I meant. I don't think I will end up painting it, everyone has been convincing me otherwise, with good reason!
It is beautiful Chinoiserie Mora clock and the finish looks original. I also vote not to paint it.

I am so glad I asked as I could have destroyed it… it seems the overwhelming response to painting was "No!". So I have decided not to paint it.

That is one gorgeous Mora! I agree, black would not be my first choice either…..however, it appears to be original and if it is, I wouldn't paint. The black will definitely bring some gorgeous drama to a room! It's simply beautiful and I know you will cherish it! Very envious!

One reason I got the black was because it was a lot cheaper than the others! I have not painted it.
