Happy New Year everyone!  Let’s kick off this new year by looking at the Pantone color of the year – Ultra Violet.  It is a blue-based purple.  Here’s what Pantone has to say about the color.

Pantone Color of the Year 2018 Ultra Violet

I have to confess, I am not a huge fan of this color in terms of using it in my decor, however I have to confess I have been inspired by these images!!  I think adding a pop of it here and there could be quite fun!

I think the easiest and least permanent way to add some ultra violet into your life and household is to simply purchase some flowers.  Below are two violet flowers – the Vanda orchid and the African Violet.

Not a fan of that color normally, but some of the photos you showed had me swooning! It really is pretty in little pops.

I agree with you! It’s in the pops!

This post brings back so many memories. An aunt that actually helped raise me painted the master bedroom in our house this color back in the 70’s. It’s not a color that I really loved at the time but with the trim in the room painted white and frilly, white lace tieback curtains, and that beautiful Bates white Martha Washington bedspread that she had on her bed it was amazing.

I was shocked at how lovely it was and with the rest of the house being decorated in the normal 70’s brown, orange, beige, green and fashionable hot yellow I came to love that dark lavender/purple room and so did our friends and neighbors.

I like white walls but you can bet there will never be any 70’s colors in my house, unless I decide to step out of the box like my aunt and make a beautiful and unexpected change. Thank you so much for posting this color.

      Take care,

      Constance

I am sure that purple room was so refreshing after the (boring) colors of the 70s!

Love this Angelina. I actually like purple quite a bit. The guest bedroom ( a work in progress) is more modern, as French as I can manage for what’s available up here, and the color inspiration was purple……. like 5 years ago. This keeps happening every time I settle for something that doesn’t look like everything else. Ha ha.

I do like purple too… but more of the lavender shade! I also say, decorate with what you love, not with the trends!

Not in my house, or on my body—! That shade of purple throws gross yellowed shadowing—including when it is worn on the body. While you post is lovely—reality is, that shade is a very difficult one to work with unless in accent doses.

I agree with you – I prefer it in accent doses.

I am a huge fan of purple in general, the color of Royalty! I have been decorating with purples, usually paired with complimentary greens long before it was in interior fashion. It was difficult to find, but where there’s a will there’s a way! Family and friends were always delighted to see it in my home, so much different than most. I still love all shades of purples, lavenders and sterling silver roses (which are lavender) are my all time favorite, yellow being second. And while I no longer use it in my design, I love the idea of it, still. These photos are swoon worthy and touch my purple loving heart. Happy New Year! 2018 is going to be absolutely amazing!

I am glad you enjoyed the post! I love purple too – this one is a little bright for me, but I like it is smaller doses! Happy New Year to you as well!

Interesting. I’ve forgotten what the color for 2017 was. Generally speaking, any jewel tone can be stunning, especially in a rich fabric like velvet!

The manner how the color is used is lovely, it depends on the size and style of the home. When I request a new color for the interior the men sigh and complain and request me to take it easy, so I try to use a color that is pleasing to everybody, I had the open planned lounge dining room painted in the color of Old English Rose, the family was not happy, I loved it. I love color, vibrant yet stylish. We all have different tastes so respect another persons taste it is just an expression of their personality. It looks like I am in for another color treat as I had with the 12 Days of Christmas, let’s go, the rest of 2018 is waiting.
