Looking for a scrumptious dessert to serve at Fourth of July this year? Why don’t you make a patriotic berry pie??

These are mini pies and they are delicious!

Mini Triple Berry Pies

Makes four servings

  • pie crust (I used frozen pre-made from Trader Joe’s, or here is my recipe for dough)
  • 4 cups mixed berries (I did 1 1/3 cup each of fresh blackberries, raspberries and blueberries)
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • juice of half a lemon
  1. Preheat oven to 375F Convection or 400F standard.
  2. Let the dough thaw if it is frozen.  For the pies, I used four 5″ tart pans with removable bottoms.  I simply traced a rough circle in the dough around each mini pan, leaving about 1/2 inch on all sides.  Then pat the dough into the pans, removing the excess crust that falls over the edge.
  3. Make the filling: mix the berries, corn starch, sugar, vanilla and lemon juice together. Set aside.
  4. Fill each pie with about 1/2 cup of filling.
  5. Decorate the tops of the pies as you’d like.  I had fun stamping out leaves, stars, flowers and then did a weave.  For a lower calorie version, simply skip putting extras on the top.
  6. Place the mini pies on a baking sheet (preferably with an edge – I did a plain cookie sheet and it bubbled over onto my oven)

Bake at 375F Convection (or 400F Standard) for 15 minutes and then turn oven down to 350F and bake for another 20-25 minutes until crust is golden and brown.  If the crust is browning too quickly, you may place some foil over the edges.

Serve with vanilla ice cream OR cinnamon whipped cream!   I have a whipped cream maker (which I LOOOOOVE, get it here on Amazon, the first link was Sur La Table) and use this simple recipe to make cinnamon whipped cream.  2 cups heavy cream, 1/4 cup Monin’s Cinnamon syrup.  Pour into the bottle, use an aerosol charger and… shake shake shake! voila! Instant FRESH cinnamon whipped cream. It’s good.

The pies prior to cooking pictured above and below.

After cooking!

I am drooling thinking about these again!

Also, if you regularly follow my blog, I’ll be decreasing my posting during the Summer because Summer blog traffic always goes down as everyone is outside (including me!!)

In this post – a Farmhouse Patriotic Table Setting for Fourth of July and Independence Day Decorations

I love setting tables – especially for holidays but I find that frequently patriotic tables appear too kitschy in my opinion.

For this patriotic table I was inspired by the antique transfer ware plates that usually sit in the cabinet or hanging on the walls.

This patriotic table has a little more muted colors of the flag – light reds and pinks replace the bold red that is usually present.

I chose peonies for this table, because one they are my favorite flower, and two, they kind of reminded me of fireworks!

A trio of goblets (for red wine, white wine, and water if you are going super formal) also echo the red, white and blue on our flag.

Vintage zinc lanterns are perfect for this farmhouse patriotic table.

Yes, the transferware plates are there for looks – the real plate that everyone eats off of is the scalloped edge white plate below – a new find from Aerin for Williams Sonoma.

You can create a patriotic table that has simple elegance – I kept it less formal by using burlap chargers and leaving out the table cloth!

This table can easily be translated for outdoor dining as well.

I’ve included sources for you for the new items – the rest are all antique or vintage or I cannot find the source!

Blue Goblets

Hopefully this table inspired you to create a beautiful patriotic table in your home too.

Happy Independence Day Weekend, everyone!!!  Today I would normally share my own tablescape for this holiday, but since I am super busy the whole weekend and won’t hardly be at home, I decided against making my own tablescape this year.

However, I am sharing with you some beautiful inspiration I found!  If you are in to the red, white, and blue than I recommend you check out all of these fabulous bloggers’ posts!

HAPPY JULY EVERYBODY!!!  Hope your Friday is awesome as it kicks off into a three day weekend for most you (not me, I get to work *insert crying face*).

Thank you all for stopping by and reading my blog. Your comments make my day and when I get home from work it is the first thing I check!

 Favorite Grilled Corn

4th of July and corn-on-the-cob just go together.  I love this parmesan corn-on-the-cob recipe! When I’m not making my Mexican street corn or just plain ol’ butter and salt corn, I make this one!

Favorite Side Dish

Patriotic potato salad! What’s not to like about potato salad?

Favorite Dessert

My favorite Fourth of July desserts consist of berries and either shortcake/angelfood cake OR just berries with whipped cream or ice cream! These parfaits look delicious!

Favorite Pool Float

Show your patriotic spirit in the pool with this pool float!! I love how all of the pool floats are fun shapes. I bought a swan one already, even though I don’t have a pool, husband was like,  uhhh what’s this? It’s a pool float.

Favorite Firework Video

This video is super cool! It is filmed from a drone and the drone flies into the fireworks! You will have never seen a fireworks shows from this POV before!

Hello and Happy Fourth of July! Yes, this party is a little bit early, but it is blog land where things tend to run early so we can look at everyone’s ideas!

I picked some flowers in red, white, and blue from the garden to create this centerpiece…

I love that I just could walk out to the garden and pick these flowers!

Our driveway was decorated with the patriotic bunting!

I created the red white and blue look with all flowers from the garden.

I made this easy patriotic fruit and pretzel flag.
It took only a few minutes to make and was a hit with the party guests!

4th of July fruit and pretzel flag

Here is another centerpiece I put together that was easy to make.
I picked some hydrangeas from the garden and put a flag in the center!

Our faithful dog is feeling patriotic…

One last look at my 4th of July centerpiece!
You can recreate the look similar on your own… just use three different vases on across your table!

Some great ideas you can do yourself for your own 4th of July party:

– Use flowers from your garden

-Create simple centerpieces using things that a red, white and blue

– Make a fruit flag – it is very easy! Just arrange your fruit in a flag! For the white I used pretzels!

-Buy some patriotic bunting and flags!

With the Fourth of July coming up, I thought I’d share some of my easy recipes that can be made last minute at your BBQs!

You can make this Patriotic Fruit Flag in less than 5 minutes.  All you need is some red, white, and blue fruit!

You could make these easy Summer pasta salad the day before your BBQ.  It is healthy and stores well overnight!

One of my *favorite* things to eat during the Summer is corn-on-the-cob.  I LOVE this Mexican-style twist on classic grilled corn.

Something that’s fun especially for kids is serving pineapple smoothies (aka copycat Dole Whip like at Disneyland) in a pineapple cup!

I hope you were able to find something on here that you could make quick and easy at home for your BBQ!

Patriotic Table Decorations for Memorial Day

With Memorial Day just around the corner, I put together this patriotic tablescape with the red, white, and blue in mind!

Patriotic Table Decorations with red charges, blue plates, and white placemats!

For this table setting, I brought out the four blue Juliska plates that I have that usually hang on the wall. I like how they contrast with the red chargers that I usually use at Christmas.

I also pulled out my lanterns to place on the side; the candles are automatic and turn on at night!

Patriotic Tablescape

I just happened to have fresh red roses that DH got me for our anniversary.  Aren’t they pretty?  For your patriotic table decorations at home you could use any white or red flowers as your centerpiece. Blue flowers are a bit harder to come by!

Patriotic Tablescape for Memorial Day or the 4th of July

What I like about this table is that it isn’t in-your-face with patriotism.  It is more subtle.

With Fourth of July just around the corner, I thought I’d share some of my favorite fruit flag desserts that I have found throughout the internet!  I was inspired to search after I posted my flag dessert from Memorial Day, seen HERE.

Browsing through pinterest… I found all of these wonderful flag desserts.  Let’s look at them all!

First up though is my fruit flag I made this time for the Fourth of July.  I used golden raspberries, blackberries, and raspberries.  As most of the fruit flags I saw were made with strawberries, I thought mine was a little different.  Now grab a spoon and serve up with ice cream!

Mexican Street Corn Recipe

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

I have to share this Mexican Street Corn recipe!  It takes corn-on-the-cob to the next level.  Ever seen the street vendors in major cities or tried the chili-lime corn at Disneyland? Well now you can make your own… it’s so much better and a lot cheaper!

Mexican Street Corn recipe adapted from Rick Bayless. Perfect for BBQs!

The recipe is adapted from Rick Bayless, Top-Chef winner and Mexican Food Expert.

Mexican Street Corn – printable recipe here

Ingredients

  • 6 ears of fresh sweet corn, still in their husks
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup of Mexican crema (or sour cream mixed with a little bit of milk so it is easily spreadable)
  • 1/3 cup crumbed Mexican queso anejo, queso fresco, or parmesan, feta, or farmer’s cheese
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 lime
  • A few sprigs of fresh cilantro

Directions

  1. About an hour before serving, soak the ears of corn with their husks on in a deep bowl of cold water.  Place a plate on top to keep them submerged.
  2. Heat your grill.  Now lay the corn on the grill (with their husks still on) and roast for about 15-20 minutes, turning frequently until the outer leaves are blackened.  Remove.
  3. Let cool for several minutes, then remove the husks and silk.
  4. About 10 minutes before serving, brush the melted butter onto the corn and then return corn to the grill.  Turn frequently until corn is nicely browned.
  5. Serve right away, applying some cream, cheese, chili powder.  Then sprinkle with a little juice of a lime and a few sprigs of fresh cilantro.
