Now that it’s November I think it may be socially acceptable to talk about Christmas (and if it’s not, too bad!) Today I’ve rounded up for you 25 great Christmas decor finds for under $25! Seriously!  The good stuff sells out fast, that’s also another reason I wrote this post so early!

So let’s get started!

6″ Boxwood Wreath – These are great for use pretty much anywhere and come at a fantastic price!

Set of 3 Classic Christmas Knit Stockings – can’t go wrong with these classic colors!

Grain Sack stocking – love this French country looking stocking!

Red Ticking stripe Pillow case – not all Christmas pillows need to state boldly that they are Christmas!

Red and Black Buffalo Check Pillow cases, set of 2

Christmas Plaid Red and White Pillow cases, set of 4– ok, I found one I love even better! A whole set of Christmas pillows!

Aromatique Holiday Boxed Candle Set – bring the smell of Christmas and the smell of trees into the house.

Personalized Christmas Sack – inspired by postal bags, this is a whimsical way to transport gifts!

Solid Brass Sleigh Bell – I have a sleigh bell too and I love it dangling from my front door!

Farm Fresh Christmas Tree Sign – I’ve seen this styled on instagram a few times… looks great amongst garland and little trees on a mantel! Comes in various sizes!

Set of 36 1″ mercury glass ornaments – these are the red and green set, but they also come in blue and silver, pink and gold, and teal.  I actually bought these one by one for $1 last year, not knowing I could pick them up for way cheaper on Amazon!

Mercury Glass Pink Ornament garland –  I bought these somewhere and they were sold separately as ornaments!  I didn’t know they were a garland! It is $27.

Shiny Brite Vintage Ornaments Set – I love the retro vintage ornaments and this set is no exception!

Shatterproof ornament set of 24 – This is a great deal and they come in almost every color!

Lit Christmas garland 9′ long by 10″ wide – This is a great price for a lit garland!  It is $33, so just a little over my $25 guide, but I had to share it!

Red charger plates, set of 6 – I dig out my similar set every year for my Christmas table.

Gold Charger Plates, set of 4

Tree Cone, gold and silver – comes in three sizes. This is for the 17″ size.

Pine Tabletop tree – comes in 18″ and 24″.  I love tabletop trees!

18″ lit Tabletop Birch tree – looks similar to the Restoration Hardware ones!

Set of Bottle Brush trees, green – These are perfect to sprinkle around the house or use in your Christmas villages!

Set of Bottle Brush trees, white – white bottle brush trees

Set of Bottle Brush trees, multi-variety – these come in various shapes

Pack of 6 Fairy String Lights – this is the cheapest I have seen these too.  Looks just like the ones you see at Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn but you get a whole pack of 6 for the price of one of theirs!

2 wreath holders – if you have doors (such as mine, where I have glass in the middle and a curved door) where you can’t use a standard wreath holder, I recommend these. I use these for my doors!

If that wasn’t enough Christmas for you, you can shop some more of my Christmas favorites below, see my post on the best Christmas candlesand check out my Christmas wreath round up!

Diptyque Holiday Candles 2018 Review

Introducing the Diptyque Holiday Candle collection for 2018! It was just released yesterday… and I already have a review for you! What??? Well, when you have a problem (both a Diptyque and a Christmas problem), you have your ways of finding the Christmas stuff *early*.  I should mention this is not a paid or sponsored review.

This year’s collection is beautiful!   I bought one of each in the collection – the middle one is the standard size and the other two are smaller sizes.  They are not cheap so I didn’t want to buy all large ones having never smelled them before!

diptyque holiday christmas candle

You can’t quite tell in the pictures, but the candles and boxes have metallic foil on them so when you move around it catches the light.  The most beautiful aroma fills the room even just having them sit out in the open like below.  I actually rather like the scent of all three together, but I would not burn them all at the same time, what a waste that would be!

Every year Diptyque has a theme for its candles so each year the candles are different. This year is Legend of the North,” a winter’s legend that awakens the spirits from imaginary folklore. In this wonder-filled story, diptyque candles take on magical powers” (from Diptyque).

Exquisite Almond Candle

Spreading in the air delicious volutes of almond and tonka bean.  This candle reminds me of marzipan with a hint of smoke.  It is a sweeter candle but not overpowering.     diptyque holiday christmas candle

Pine Tree of Light Candle

From this light is born the captivating scent of fir trees, warmed by the delicate, neighboring cedars.  This one is my favorite of the three, only because I *love* pine tree candles.  This one has pine tree scent with a hint of burning cedar. diptyque holiday christmas candle

Amber Balm Candle

A gracious accord between vanilla and benzoin, enhanced by the freshness of lavender.  This one is I think the most unique scent of them all, it is a smoky amber with a hint of sea salt.

Candle Carrousel

This is such a cool contraption.  This sits on top of the larger candle (190g candle) and when the candle is lit, the heat from the candle will cause the carrousel to turn! It’s like magic! (or science…)

diptyque holiday christmas candleBelow I have it displayed on the larger candle.  This works for all Ditpyque candles that are 190g.  I love that it is metallic so it sparkles in the candlelight and produces beautiful patterns in the room.  I had been wanting to purchase one from previous years but I would forget and then it would sell out.

Upcoming Trends from Milan

Last week we came back from our vacation to Switzerland and Italy.  Whenever I head to Europe I like to take notice of the trends over there as I have found that they eventually make their way over here to the States.

Years ago, the trends seemed to take several years to hop over the pond but now with the internet and social media the trends have been arriving here faster than in years’ past!

These trends are coming straight from the fashion capital of the world, Milan!

Round, Flat Sunglasses with a Double Bridge

I don’t quite know the name of these sunglasses, hence the long name I came up for them.  It seemed like *everyone* in Italy was wearing this style, both men and women.  Of course I got on board and bought a pair!

Blue and Rose gold, Rayban, gold and blue,

Pink #2Black AviatorPink Fendi,

Top Handle Handbags

It seemed that the most popular bags were bags with a  handle on top – and most of the time they were structured bags but not always.

Left Prada mini top handle,Right Brown leather bag

Blue Suits

Literally every single man in Milan was wearing a blue suit.  Not navy blue. But BLUE.  And he was wearing it with blue shoes, a blue tie and blue socks. Blue on blue on blue!  EVERY ONE.  It was shocking actually as to how many people were wearing it!  Young men, old men and everyone in between! And they were wearing them with the sunglasses I mentioned above.  I know this trend is coming to the USA since everyone was wearing it.  Also, the suit pants are tailored quite short, to hit around the ankle so that we can all admire the blue socks.   In fact, my husband bought a pair of blue dress shoes in Milan!

Scented Rooms

It seemed like every single store and hotel we walked into was scented heavily with fragrance.  This was not just in Milan, but everywhere in Italy it seemed!  I’ve included a few wonderful smelling fragrances for the home that will take you straight to the Mediterranean!

This inspired me to open up one of my reed diffusers which I had been saving for some time, which is the Prosecco one below.  It was so refreshing to come from the outside and to walk inside these places!

Let’s talk about these chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies. These cookies are diet breakers. They are GOOD.  Like, really really good.  Now that it’s Labor Day, it’s time to heat up our ovens (and our houses!). Break your oven in again this Fall with these cookies!

chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies

They are so delicious… even writing this post I just want to lick my screen.

chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies

You see, we had a bunch of leftover macadamia nuts from our trip to Hawaii.  The recipe calls for regular macadamia nuts.  I used honey covered macadamia nuts.chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies

WHOA.  If you happen to have honey coated macadamia nuts, you will make these cookies extraordinary. Like the bomb diggity.

Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cookies

Makes about 3 dozen
Ingredients
  •   3 cups all-purpose flour
  •   1 tsp. baking soda
  •   1 tsp. salt
  •   1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  •   2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  •   1 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  •   2 eggs
  •   2 tsp. vanilla
  •   1 3/4 cups chopped macadamia nuts
  •   2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Beat the butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar together until creamy. Then add the eggs and vanilla.  Beat until well blended.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda and salt.  Then pour the mixture into the butter mixture.  Mix together until well blended.
  4. Lastly, stir the nuts and chocolate chips in.
  5. Drop rounded spoonfuls of batter onto uncreased baking sheets.  Bake for roughly 12 minutes or until a light brown.
  6. Cool for 5 minutes on the tray and then remove cookies from sheets and place on cooling rack.

Regular macadamia nuts though work too… and the cookies are still glamorous with them.  They remind me of those Sausalito cookies from the store by Pepperidge Farm.  You know which ones? Except those ones are crunchy.

chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies

Go ahead, make them. I dare you.  I suggest bringing them to work or an event so you don’t eat them all yourself.

6 Things To Do Now To Get Ready for Fall

Fall table settingWe use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Today I have six things for you to do to get ready for Fall! I know you might be groaning at me for bringing up Fall on another Friday in Summer, but guess what… Fall is starting really soon whether we like it or not.   So maybe while you are reading this at the pool, you can start to think about things you can do for the upcoming season.

Create and a Late Summer/Early Fall vignette

One of the easiest things to do is to create a late Summer/early Fall vignette.  Take your Summer vignette you have out already, maybe remove a few Summer touches such as seashells, and throw in a few Fall touches – like some mini apples or sunflowers for instance.

Transition Summer to Fall decor

Get your Fall projects finished

Make that wreath or garland you wanted to make now so that way you can enjoy it all season long!  Below is my DIY Fall wreath inspired by Mackenzie Childs and my DIY felted wool acorns.

DIY Fall Wreath tutorial  DIY felted wool acorns

Pull out your Fall china and decor from storage

Start taking your Fall decor out of the storage bins and see what you have! If the Fall china is located in the back of the cupboard, bring it up to the front.  You are more likely to use if it if you see it.  Start rearranging some displays and vignettes with little touches of Fall here and there.

dough bowl

Purge a few things you don’t use!

Have some Summer decor sitting in the closet that you didn’t drag out this year?  Maybe it’s time to think about getting rid of it and freeing up some closet space for some more goodies!  Or, when you brought your Fall decor out, did you find something that is worse for wear or just isn’t your style any more?  Time to purge!

fall dough bowl decorating

Get a Dough Bowl or a Bread Board!

I love using my dough bowl to decorate for Fall. It’s so easy… just toss in pumpkins and you’re done.  You can see in the various pictures in this post that I love to use it.  I recommend investing in one. It doesn’t have to be antique.  Mine is antique and huge, like frankly, really huge.  Like maybe a little too big.  But I love it anyway!  I used it here and here and here.

dough bowl

I also got a bread board last year and have had fun decorating with it.   You can see it here in this post.

Fall table setting

Start scrolling through your favorite websites for Fall

I am a planner.  The stores start putting out their Fall stuff on their websites starting July 5 (YES I confess, I start looking that day, that’s how I know).  The cutest items generally sell out by the first day of Fall. Not always, but generally speaking.  So if you see something you need to have, get it now, don’t wait.   I have a new round up of throw pillows here and top 12 best scented candles for Fall here.

Favorite French Hand Soaps

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Let’s talk about my favorite French hand soaps today! One thing I like to splurge on is some luxurious French soap.

french soap

French soaps are just… different. They seem heavier (?), or maybe creamier (?) than soaps in the states.   Their scents will transport you to an olive grove… instead of the dryer vent!

So what is the French-milled soaps? Well, the French invented the milling process in the 1700s and have it perfected!

french soap

They shred the soap into a machine the rolls the soap into a smooth paste. They do this three times, hence the name triple-milled or French-milled soap. This makes the soaps harder and thus last longer… a little goes a long way! The texture is thus finer so it feels smoother and makes a better lather!

savon de marseille

So then what is Savon de Marseille? The soap makers of Marseille used native olive oil and alkaline ash of Mediterranean marine plants to create their soaps. In 1688, there was an edict stating that fine soaps in Marseille had to contain 72% vegetable oil with no animal additives, and it was known as “Savon de Marseille” or “Marseille Soap”. The name stuck!

savon de marseille

It takes two weeks to make the soap and it is still made from olive oil and alkaline ash from Mediterranean sea plants!  The soap often has a fine white powder on the outside and that is sea salt – it will wash away! A 600g bar of savon de Marseille can last up to 6 months when used as bath soap!

Now only four soap makers still craft Marseille Soap according to the centuries-old tradition and here they are: Savonnerie le Serail, Marius Fabre, La Savonnerie du Midi, and La Savonnerie du Fer à Cheval. Good luck finding them online to purchase!

Now, the four companies mentioned above follow the traditional olive-oil only and lye soap making process.  L’Union des professionnels du savon de Marseille (UPSM) as new rules which states Savon de Marseille can  use olive oil, palm kernel oil, palm oil, coconut oil, lye, sea salt and water.

french milled soaps

You know, I started this article just doing a little research about French soap… I admit, I had no idea that there was such a big hoopla in France about which is truly authentic Savon de Marseille vs not!

The soaps I like are apparently French milled, but not “true” Savon de Marseille. Who knew? Not me.  All of the soaps below are French milled soaps.

I like to put the little soaps in between the pillow cases and sheets in the linen closet.  This makes the sheets smell really fresh when you take them out to use them! Sorry for the poor quality picture… turns out the linen closet has bad lighting!

french soap

Pre de Provence – this is my favorite company for the little mini hand soaps… I tuck these ones into my linens! They the larger soap in VerbenaOlive Lavande,  peony, Lavender Queen’s Honey, Sage, Honey Almond, There are packs of 5 minis in Sage,   Lavender, and Verbena! I confess the verbena is my favorite!

L’occitane Bonne Mare Soaps – Soap made in the Marseille way, with tons of wonderful scents. In addition to hand soap, they are also great for placing in between linens or in clothing drawers! It comes in HoneyVerbena, Milk, Peach, Rose, Lavender.

french soap

Savon de Marseille – if you want the most bang for you buck, this big block of soap will last you half the year!  I actually have seen this one in person but never bought it – next time I head to this store I am buying it since I think it is a “true” Savon de Marseille!

savon de marseille

Figue d’ete – I don’t have this exact soap but I have the candle in this scent and it smells amazing!

french milled soap

Diptyque L’Ombre de le Eau Soap – if you love the Baies candle, they also have the fabulous hand soap too! It smells of roses and black currants!

Une Olive en Provence – This soap takes you right to Provence! I have this one also tucked into my linens… aaahhh smells so good! I also have the body scrub and it is soooo nice!

french soap

Now onto Liquid French Soaps!

Compagnie de Provence Hand Soap – I feel like I keep writing the same thing… it smells amazing!

french soap

L’Occitane Liquid Hand Soap – I love this soap!  I have the verbena and the lavender.  The great part is you can buy refills which are cheaper – just keep your bottle when it’s empty and refill it!

french soap

L’occitane Cleansing Hand wash – I don’t really know the exact difference between this one and the one bbove, but the scents are slightly different. Either way, love these too. It comes in Verbena.

french soap

Diptyque Hand and Body Soap – I have this in Sens de Eau and it is my favorite soap! I use it as a body wash (not everyday – it isn’t cheap, only when I want to feel extra luxurious!) but it is also a hand soap. They also have one in Philosykos which is their fig scent which smells amazing.

Marie Antoinette Fashion – Friday FavoritesWe use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

One of my favorite movies is Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette.  It was actually filmed at the Chateau de Versailles.  It is a beautiful movie to watch.  In addition to the stunning scenery and sets (what’s not to love about the palace?), the costumes are wonderful.  The movie itself does not have very much dialogue – I think she lets the visuals do the talking.

I wanted to share a few of my favorite costumes from the movie.  I know it’s a little bit of a different post than I normally write, but you all know I am a Francophile!

Below is her Austrian costume. It appears to be a grey blue velvet.

When she entered the border of France, she was forced to change and stripped of everything Austrian – and this is her new French outfit!

Below is her wedding gown. Could imagine wearing a dress with such wide hips! What women do for fashion…

This one below is one of my favorite gowns.  I just love love love the fabric. Also love the other ladies’ dresses as well!   The blue and yellow dress in the back looks like a Pierre Frey fabric, actually.

I loved her pink bow dress on blue but there aren’t too many good pictures of it.  I also love taking a pause to look at the food spread on the table! A work of art!

Below is her coronation gown.

Love the soft palette here, and yes, I know this was filmed in Marie Antoinette’s bedroom because I studied that fabric and wallpaper up close in that room!

Below is a shot from Annie Liebovitz for Vogue.

A beautiful red belt against a pale blue gown!

This fabric below is so beautiful. Love the red gloves and the blue silk ribbon used as a necklace.  So chic!

I found these pictures on the Costumer’s Guide.  She has compiled so many pictures of so many costumes from many movies.  She doesn’t update her site anymore, unfortunately.

Favorite Face Masks

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Sharing my favorite face masks that I’m using right now. I understand skin care can be quite personal, but these work for all skin types.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

My take: I use this mask after night shifts and for jet lag.  Perfect also if you stayed up way too late one night.

Here’s what they say: This uber-dewy, hydrating mask soothes thirsty, stressed-out skin by steeping cells in a nourishing mix of vitamins, ceramides, antioxidants, and gently exfoliating extracts. Skin looks instantly renewed, radiant, and ready for anything.

Fresh Umbrian Clay Mask

My take – this clay mask I use one to two times a week.  It helps reduce the size of pores and balances my complexion.  My skin feels softer and smoother after this.

Here’s what Fresh says – Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask is a multi-functional treatment for normal to oily skin. Umbrian Clay has been used since the ancient Etruscans for its benefits. This instant purifying mask can also be used as a daily deep cleanser or to minimize small imperfections. It is proven to significantly reduce the appearance of pores and mattify the skin without drying out the complexion.  Umbrian Clay, Fresh’s proprietary ingredient, has a high mineral content that works to help balance, purify, and clarify the complexion. Sandalwood oil is known for its astringent properties and helps to calm the skin.  Chamomile flower and lavender water are notable for their soothing properties.

Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask

My take – I received a sample of this mask and I just wanted to rub it all over me!  This mask has clay and almond oil.  It made my skin feel so hydrated and happy after I was done – yes, an oxymoron for most clay masks. I am going to get a regular bottle of it.

Here’s what they say: This supercharged Goddess Skin Clay Mask is based on an ancient Mediterranean beauty recipe, which combines gentle yet nutrient-rich Spanish clay with Sweet Almond Oil, prized for its nourishing properties. What it does: Working with the world’s leading laboratories, Charlotte took this centuries-old remedy and added the latest anti-aging breakthrough ingredients, such as the BioNymph Peptide Complex to create a glow-giving formula your complexion will drink in. Spanish clay absorbs oil and draws out impurities without drying. Sweet Almond and Rosehip Oil nourish and delay signs of skin aging. BioNymph Peptide Complex boosts collagen production and improves elasticity. Essential oils create a smooth, hydrating formula that never feels chalky or dry. Frangipani Flower Extract boasts soothing antiseptic properties and leaves skin cashmere soft.

Fresh Rose Face Mask

My take – I use it when I feel my skin is a little irritated or dry and just needs to be soothed.

What they say: A cult-favorite hydrating and toning gel mask infused with real rose petals, soothing rosewater, and a “smart” algae that delivers optimum moisture. Solutions for:- Dryness- Redness- Pores.

Fresh Vitamin Nectar Mask

My take: I use this mask when my skin feels dull needs a little boost for some radiance.  Vitamin C is all the rage right now for skin care and this one has lots of vitamin C!

What they say: An instant glow face mask powered by a concentrated blend of 50 percent crushed citrus fruits that reveals radiant skin in as little as one use.Solutions for: – Dullness and uneven texture – Uneven skin tone If you want to know more…Get glowing skin instantly with Fresh Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask. This powerhouse treatment improves the skin’s radiance and glow by 31 percent after one use, and by 49 percent after four weeks of use. The revolutionary formula is powered by 50 percent real crushed citrus fruits including oranges, lemons, and clementines, naturally containing AHA fruit acids that work to gently refine and smooth the skin. This fruit blend comes in the form of a paste, which is made from lemons cultivated in the Mediterranean region—providing double exfoliation by offering a pleasant scrub, while the AHA fruit acid content offers a chemical peeling effect

Glamglow Supermud

My take: I use this when I’m having a bad break out.  It smells terrible but totally helps my skin.

A face mask designed to visibly clear the complexion.Who it’s for: Ideal for normal, oily or combination skin types. What it does: The SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment was developed to address common skin concerns, which include blemishes, redness, scars, razor bumps and ingrown hair. The potent mud formula supports skin’s natural oil balance, while a proprietary blend of six acids (glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, pyruvic acid and tartaric acid) work to help minimize pores and create clearer skin. Activated-X charcoal lifts away dirt and other skin congestions, resulting in a refined, healthy-looking complexion.

French Vintage Decor Book – Friday Favorites

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Attention Francophiles and decor lovers! A new book was released this week entitled French Vintage Decor and I’ve got my hands on a copy to share with you!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review and promotion. All opinions are my own.  This post contains affiliate links.  If you make a purchase after clicking on these links, we will earn a small commission.  You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise!

This book was written by a very talented blogger, Jamie who blogs at So Much Better with Age. I have been a longtime fan of her blog so I was thrilled to find out she was writing a book!

She shares her passion for France, antiques and home projects with you in her beautiful book. This book isn’t just for Francophiles though – there are so many DIY projects for the home for all different decorating styles.

There is a wide variety of projects from “easy” such as how to create beautiful floral arrangements to “advanced” such as building your own trumeau mirror!

I starting reading through her book the afternoon I received it.  There are many tutorials on furniture makeovers.  I was so inspired I have started repainting some French tables I have (pictures to come later when I’m all done!)

She has beautiful French inspired charm and has created a wonderful book full of fabulous ideas that will bring some extra ooh-la-la to your living room.  Oh did I mention the photography is wonderful?! In addition to pictures of her house and projects, she has pictures of France from her travels which I adore!

I know many of you would enjoy reading this book!  It would make a great gift too for your Francophile and decor loving friends.

You can purchase it here on Amazon

A big congratulations to Jamie on her book release and thank you for the wonderful read!
