Do you love that French Mediterranean garden look as much as I do? I am thinking you do, since you are here reading this post!

Here are some tips for creating that French Mediterranean Garden look we love so much!

What to plant:

The plants in the garden I think are quite simple, such that there is not a ton of variety. No need to overthink it! The trees are often planted in alleys.

Trees: the trees to plant are Italian cypress trees, olive trees, Sycamore/ plane trees, hornbeam trees, Linden trees. For ornamental trees, fruit trees are often used and they are planted in an espalier fashion or pleached.

Plants: lavender, rosemary and thyme are frequently used, not just as a single plant but as hedges. Roses are very common, specifically iceberg but many other roses too. I find that they frequently stick to a color palette and stick to one rose in certain gardens. Iris are also popular. Boxwood is very popular as well – either trimmed into an ornamental decoration or a hedge.

Other: pots are frequently used not just in the garden but on the sidewalks or paved areas as well. Crushed granite and rock is also used in the gardens.

Water features are also commonly used – just a simple fountain is also that is needed. Below is obviously a fancier fountain in a town square, notice though it is lined with plants, I believe it is Arborvitae. To recreate the look below, you could just do a simple bowl fountain with a bubbler or even just a rectangle reflecting pool.
