Top tips for Paris Travel in 2026. A comprehensive list of what to know before you go! A few things have changed since we last went. Here are some useful tips:
Apps I highly recommend downloading before you trip:
Citymapper – helps you figure out the best way to get from A to B either by foot or with metro or bus lines. I know Google Maps can do this too, but I felt like this map was far superior
Bonjour RATP or Il de France Mobilites. These apps are for the Metro and train. You can buy the pass online. That said, we purchased ours in person as we struggled at the time buying online. We went up to the ticket counter and spoke to a person and purchased it. I suggest buying the weekly or daily pass for the metro, for all zones. Now, for the weekly pass, they consider “weekly” Monday-Sunday. You will need to figure out what is cheapest for you.
We did use the Bonjour RATP a lot to figure out when the next metro trains were arriving, and fastest metro routes from A to B.
G7 Taxi – I used this to arrange for a driver from airport to our hotel. I did this back at home in the states. I put my flight in ahead of time and had a prearranged time. I chose to do this because I could choose a larger vehicle with a car seat. You can also use Uber, but I don’t know if you can plan ahead of time like I did above.
I strongly recommend you watch videos from Les Frenchies on YouTube. They have so many helpful videos that are up to date about getting around in Paris!
>>MUSEUM TICKETS AND RESERVATIONS<<
Many years ago you did not need to purchase tickets in advance to see St. Chapelle. Well, now you do (or you can wait in a long line like we did). Here is a link to purchase them (I believe it is also included in the Paris Museum pass, below).
If you plan to visit many sites in Paris, I strongly recommend that you purchase the Paris Museum pass.
In fact, many places require reservations to enter. Please refer to this website.
I also recommend you purchase your Eiffel Tower tickets in advance here.
