The Five most decadent Parisian Patisseries… and I have not been to one of them! Oh dear, I guess we have to make a trip back!  I actually tried to go to one of them but unfortunately it had closed before we got there.

Favorite Instagram…

Since I have skipped this category for a little while I thought I would just include a whole bunch of instagrams that caught my eye!

Spotted…

We were strolling through the mall this past weekend and went into the Kate Spade store and she has this new life of cruise-worthy handbags!  My relatives are on a cruise right now and I thought these bags would be PERFECT for taking on a cruise!

Resin Ship Clutch – perfect for cruising!! Bring this to the dinner and out dancing on the cruise!

3D life preserver clutch – SO much fun, can’t you see yourself in your nautical wear with this?

Life Preserver tote (on sale HERE).  You could fit so much in this bag!

“Going Places” Tote is so fun! I’d bring this to Europe if I didn’t already have other purses to bring!

From the Blog

Have you been to the Nordstrom Sale yet? If not, you have to check it out because it is going to end soon!!!

One // Two // Three // Four // Five // Six // Seven // Eight // Nine

Favorite Cat….

This is Chloé the cat with her head in the box not moving. Notice her little paw poking through the inside. One paw is inside and one is outside.  I am so glad I talked my husband into letting us have a cat… she brings us so much joy! We’ve had her for 6 months now and even though she broke my favorite tulipiere (RIP) she is forgiven.

Happy 3rd Blogiversary to Peonies and Orange Blossoms!!

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Well, Peonies and Orange Blossoms turns THREE this week! I can hardly believe I’ve been blogging for several years!  I suppose I’m no longer a “newbie”, especially in the internet world where things can be viral for all of two seconds!

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

To celebrate this year we’re having a virtual tea party at Chatsworth House.  (Every year I have a virtual soiree, one year it was a Marie Antoinette Party, last year it was an evening dinner in Napa).

This isn’t any ol’ tea party.  We’re having an Edwardian themed tea party a la Pride and Prejudice and the early days of Downton Abbey. So wear your best Edwardian outfit!

Make sure your shoes are comfortable though, as we’re touring the beautiful gardens first.

After your garden tour, let’s meet up for tea time.

The Dowager Countess has been waiting for you at the table…

No really, she didn’t go on that walk…

Isn’t the table pretty?

There are lots of goodies to nosh on at this tea time, hmm, which to eat first??

A BIG SHOUT OUT to all of my lovely readers! Thank you for following along with me through my little journey called life.

I’d love for you to leave a comment or a follow on a social media!

In Love with Groin Vault Ceilings

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

First, before I start, for my regular blog readers, I’m cutting my posting back until the Fall… I will be posting Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays instead of Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. I have found that blog readership is way down right now because everyone is out keeping themselves busy right now in Summer… Myself included. Who wants to sit inside in front of a screen when it’s so beautiful outside! I certainly don’t!! Anyway on to the topic…

I fell in love with groin vault ceilings a little while ago. I think they are so interesting.  Below is a picture of a groin vault ceiling, as an example

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

If you don’t know what a groin vault ceiling is, I thought this diagram below was really helpful in showing the different types of ceilings.

I love the look of the groin vault ceiling down a hallway like this… with a pendant hanging down from the center of each one.

I really really wanted my long hallway in my house to have groin vaults down the whole thing.  It would have looked so cool! Pendants down the center and all.  Like below.

Except, it’s not going to work out.  For several reasons – one, by California law we have to have fire extinguishers installed in the ceiling in each one of the groin vaults – it is supposed to run down the center but since you would put a pendant there, you would have to cut an extra hole running down next to the pendants that is off center. This does not look pleasing to the eye. But I thought, okay, well I can live with that.

The other problems is that one area of the house the living room will be on the left and the dining on the right – both with tall ceilings.  If I want the groin vault, I would have to either significantly raise the height of the hallway or drop the living room or ceiling heights (reason – because the groin vault drops down several feet from the ceiling, as you can see below).  I am not going to be able to do this.

So no long hallway for me with pretty groin vaults.

But wait. Maybe I can work it somehow into the entry?

Hmm, I need to go back to the drawing board and measure around. Maybe that would work.

I found this picture below pretty interesting – it shows how the groin vault is made!

So long, dreams of long hallway with groin vaults.  Also don’t want to have too many interesting architectural features – otherwise it will seem too over-the-top.

So, do you like the groin vault ceiling? Do you have one in your house?

Chocolate Cherry Macarons

Cherries are my favorite fruit and I love chocolate and macarons, so I thought, why not make a chocolate cherry macaron??? So the Chocolate cherry macaron was made and quickly gobbled up!
This post may contain affiliate links.

Chocolate Cherry Macaron Recipe
Chocolate Cherry Macaron Recipe

Materials needed: (affiliate links are used for your convenience)

    • a food scale (yes, you need this. I use this one)
    • a piping tip and piping bag (I like the ateco #806, I use these tips and piping bag)
    • Food coloring (the gels or dry powder works best, not the liquid store stuff)
    • A macaron template
    • food processor (I use this one)

Chocolate Cherry Macaron Recipe

Laduree Macaron shell Recipe (from Ladurée Macarons)

275g ground almonds

  250g powdered sugar

210g egg whites

210g granulated sugar

1.  Mix almond meal and the powdered sugar in a food processor. Be careful not to grind too long, otherwise it will form a paste.

2. Sift the almonds and powdered sugar. Set aside.

3. Weigh out granulated sugar.

4. Weigh the egg whites.  Beat them slowly on a low speed until foamy. SLOWLY add the granulated sugar to the egg whites as you beat.  Once all mixed, increase speed to medium and beat until a firm meringue forms.  You want a firm meringue with glossy peaks but not stiff peaks.  They should defy gravity and remain in the bowl if you turn it upside down.  If you tilt your bowl to the side and they are sliding out, keep beating.

5. Add the food coloring gel and mix.
6. Then fold in 1/3rd of the almond/sugar mixture into the meringue with a silicone spatula.  Once combined, add another third of the almond mixture. Add last bit.  This batter requires more deflation during this step since it creates such a poofy meringue.

7. Add the batter to a piping bag. . Pipe in rows using your template onto parchment paper.

8. Pick up the pan and beat until the counter.  The cookies need to rest on the counter between 30-60 minutes.  They are ready to go in the oven when they are dry to touch (the shell shouldn’t stick to your finger)

9.  Set the oven to 300F.

10. Bake the cookies for 13-15 minutes one sheet at a time. They are done when they look kind of matte and seem firm when you lightly tap on them.  You can always rescue a slightly overcooked one with the maturation process that comes later, but you cannot rescue an undercooked one!!

11.  Remove from paper once completely cool. If they stick they stick to the paper, they aren’t cool yet. Or you undercooked them.

Chocolate Cherry Filling

8 oz. semi-sweet chocolate, either finely chopped or chips.

8 oz. heavy cream

3 tbsp kirsch

1. In a medium bowl place the chopped chocolate. Bring heavy cream to a boil; pour over the chocolate and let sit for about 1 minute.  Then slowly whisk to combine, trying not to incorporate a lot of air when whisking.

2. Stir in the kirsch syrup.

3. Let ganache chill in refrigerator until set.

To fill the macarons, spread a little bit of ganache on one side of the shell, then gently press the second shell together.  Allow to sit overnight in an airtight container in the refrigerator.  This is a key part!!  I promise if you wait to eat them until the next day they will taste fabulous!

Want to know a secret, I confess, I did *not* make the filling in this recipe.  I was actually shopping in a trip to Napa and went to one of my favorite gourmet food stores, Olivier, and bought this wonderful Chocolate Cherry sauce.  Yes, I cheated, I know.  It made this process so much easier though!

Antoinette Poisson and Handmade French Paper

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

A while ago on one of my trips to San Francisco, I visited one of my favorite boutiques, Sue Fisher King.  She had some fabulous pillows from Antoinette Poisson. I had never heard of Antoinette Poisson before, she told me a little history of the company, and now I have done my own research.

Antoinette Poisson is a Parisian atelier located by the Bastille that creates hand-blocked and hand-painted wallpapers, known as dominos, that are either reproduced or inspired by 18th century dominos.

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

The company is named after the Marquise de Pompadour (her actual name is Jeanne Antoinette Poisson).

There are currently 14 patterns that the company creates.  Four are exact reproductions, four are reimaginings of the old, and the rest are the company’s own design.

Dominos were originally made to cover the interior of chests, cabinets, or small rooms. They are 32x42cm each and go for approximately 50 euro each.

They create the patterns in several color ways.

Isn’t it lovely?? I love this paper.

In the picture below, you can see a remnant of an old domino and then the newly recreated one in the background!

Here someone used their creations to line a cabinet! Don’t you just love it???

Thought I would include some pictures of their pillows so you could enjoy the patterns!

Also, I found these cute little garden maps they have created!!

So, what do you think? Have you ever heard of this company?

If you are interested in reading more about this company, I highly suggest checking out A Gent of Style – in this post they actually visited the shop and have tons of beautiful pictures!! There is also this article from House and Garden UK, and this one from architectural digest.

You can check out the official website here and if you’re interested in shopping go to Sue Fisher King. *I was not compensated to write this post*.

All the photos below are from Stribling & Associates.

The Chateau can be yours for a cool $11.4 million! Read about the sale here. This article here talks about the renovation.  For more interior photos, you can visit the official website here.  This chateau apparently was wired with wifi(maybe the only chateau to do so, who knows! So you can surf the ‘net while sitting in the gardens!)

Did you all enjoy dreaming that you could live in this chateau? I certainly had a fun time!

Happy Independence Day Weekend, everyone!!!  Today I would normally share my own tablescape for this holiday, but since I am super busy the whole weekend and won’t hardly be at home, I decided against making my own tablescape this year.

However, I am sharing with you some beautiful inspiration I found!  If you are in to the red, white, and blue than I recommend you check out all of these fabulous bloggers’ posts!

Five on Friday Fourth of July Edition!

HAPPY JULY EVERYBODY!!!  Hope your Friday is awesome as it kicks off into a three day weekend for most you (not me, I get to work *insert crying face*).

Thank you all for stopping by and reading my blog. Your comments make my day and when I get home from work it is the first thing I check!

 Favorite Grilled Corn

4th of July and corn-on-the-cob just go together.  I love this parmesan corn-on-the-cob recipe! When I’m not making my Mexican street corn or just plain ol’ butter and salt corn, I make this one!

Favorite Side Dish

Patriotic potato salad! What’s not to like about potato salad?

Favorite Dessert

My favorite Fourth of July desserts consist of berries and either shortcake/angelfood cake OR just berries with whipped cream or ice cream! These parfaits look delicious!

Favorite Pool Float

Show your patriotic spirit in the pool with this pool float!! I love how all of the pool floats are fun shapes. I bought a swan one already, even though I don’t have a pool, husband was like,  uhhh what’s this? It’s a pool float.

Favorite Firework Video

This video is super cool! It is filmed from a drone and the drone flies into the fireworks! You will have never seen a fireworks shows from this POV before!
