How to Get Your Coffee Bar Ready for the Holidays

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

I thought I would share with you today on how to get your coffee bar ready for the Holidays! Now, the coffee bar doesn’t serve just coffee.  It serves up tea and hot chocolate too! There is something to please every guest here!

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

How to Get Your Coffee Bar Ready for the Holidays

Clean it Up

The first thing you need to do to prepare your coffee bar for the holidays is to clean it up!  Clean your coffee machine, clean your counters, add your Christmas cheer!

Provide a Variety of Teas, Coffees, and Hot Chocolate!

The next thing to do is to stock up on everything!

First, I have a selection of various teas, including Christmas themed teas.  I love Tea Forte and they make the cutest tea bags, but really any selection of teas will work.

Second, I have a selection of hot chocolates – a peppermint hot chocolate and a regular milk hot chocolate.

Third, I have a selection of various coffee flavors, both decaf and regular.  We use Nespresso at home as our preferred coffee and we love it.  (Side note – used to have a Keurig, it broke, we switched to nepresso and have been in love with it for 4 years. We just got this new machine which steams the milk and we love it. Like seriously – no more Starbucks).

How to Get your Coffee Bar Ready for the Holidays!

Add a Variety of “Mix-Ins”

We have several different coffee syrups (caramel, sugar-free vanilla, and white chocolate).

We have different types of honey and marshmallows.  We also have cinnamon sticks, granulated sugar, Splenda, raw sugar, and agave syrup.

Don’t know where to find those extra mix ins? Well, some of the extra sugars/agave syrup are from when we ordered things to go at various restaurants and didn’t use them, but we didn’t want to waste them, so here they are!

I also like to serve my coffees with an espresso bean on the side.  It makes it seem like a coffee shop!

We also have some biscottis for those that like their coffee and biscotti.  I buy the espresso beans at Trader Joe’s and biscotti at Costco.

How to Get your Coffee Bar Ready for the Holidays!
A “Vanilla Steamer” for the kids topped with a marshmallow

Below, various syrups are seen! There is hot chocolate hiding in the cookie jar (for now… Will someone make some cookies??)

How to Get your Coffee Bar Ready for the Holidays!

Provide a Selection of Mugs and Stirring Spoons

I have several different types of holiday mugs to choose from that accommodate different types of drinks! Big one is for drip coffee, one in the middle back is for lattes and latte macchiatos, little French one in the front is for cappuccinos, and the tartan ones are for espresso!

Additionally, you can see some spoons in an espresso cup in the middle shelf on the right.  Those are antique sterling spoons. The spoons are all mismatched from different patterns that we’ve collected here and there. What’s funny is that people pick through that cup looking at all of the different spoons until they settle on one they like! It’s funny because almost everyone does it!  I mean, I still do it!

Other Tips

A three-tiered tray makes a great display for your coffee bar!  You can store a whole bunch of different items on it and you can turn it around to get to the back!

a cappuccino and my attempt at latte art! ha!

I hope you find my tips helpful!  We host Thanksgiving and frequently have people over during Christmas and this is a great way to entertain guests! Oh, plus we also use it everyday and like it too!!

This week’s Five on Friday consists of Five Recipe for Thanksgiving.  We will be making each one of these next week!

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

This apple, onion, and gruyere tart bite is our #1 Thanksgiving appetizer. It is so delicious and flies out of the oven!

We make our own bread rolls from scratch.  They aren’t too hard to make; you just have to prepare for them! We usually make these onion rolls.

I know that this picture isn’t the prettiest, but this salad is delicious! It consists of mixed greens, apples, cranberries and pecans.  It is the Fall Harvest salad.

This pumpkin soup is so delicious. We initially made it “for the vegetarians” but then everyone ate it!

This is the best apple pie recipe. It tastes so good still warm with a little vanilla ice cream on the side!

I won’t be posting a Five on Friday next week due to the holiday weekend. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Pumpkin Tart Recipe

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

A pumpkin tart! Every Thanksgiving for the past several years, my husband and I have attempted to make pumpkin pie from scratch. I mean, like FROM SCRATCH… like grow the pumpkins in our garden, roast the pumpkins, harvest the fruit, make our puree, and then bake a pie (with homemade pie crust, of course).

And EVERY YEAR we have failed… I don’t know what happens. The thing explodes. It cracks on top. Or it’s too watery. I don’t know.  I don’t get it. We can make pecan pie, apple pie, and shoot, even lemon meringue pie *from scratch* without difficulty. So I don’t know why the pumpkin pie is so elusive.

So I thought, wait a minute. I can bake tarts. Why not… make a pumpkin tart.

A delicious pumpkin tart recipe

So we set off on a mission to make our own pumpkin tart from scratch.  I used the standard French tart dough recipe below that is very easy to make and found a promising looking recipe on Martha Stewart (of course).

A delicious pumpkin tart recipe

And guess what?! We nailed it on the first attempt! WHAAAT? Take that, pumpkin pie!  And honestly, this tastes exactly like a pumpkin pie.

So what’s the difference between the pumpkin pie and pumpkin tart?  They taste the same. But the pumpkin tart has more crust than the pumpkin pie. Granted, tart crust is tastier than the pie crust.  I suppose I could have made the crust thinner if I wanted.

A delicious pumpkin tart recipe

Would I make this again? YES! Plus, it’s cuter than a pumpkin pie.

Tart dough (recipe from David Leibovitz, I recommend reading his recipe on his site – it’s funny)

90 g (3 ounces) unsalted butter, cut into pieces

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

3 tablespoons water

1 tablespoon sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

156 g (5oz, or 1 slightly-rounded cup) flour

  1. Preheat the oven to 410º F
  2. In a medium-sized ovenproof bowl, combine the butter, oil, water, sugar, and salt.
  3. Place the bowl in the oven for 15 minutes, until the butter is bubbling and starts to brown just around the edges.
  4. When done, remove the bowl from oven (and be careful, since the bowl will be hot and the mixture might sputter a bit), dump in the flour and stir it in quickly, until it comes together and forms a ball which pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  5. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch (23 cm) tart mold with a removable bottom and spread it a bit with a spatula OR transfer the dough to your mini tart pans. It doesn’t matter the size of your tart pans. Save a raspberry size piece of dough and set it aside.
  6. Once the dough is cool enough to handle, pat it into the shell with the heel of your and, and use your fingers to press it up the sides of the tart mold.
  7. Prick the dough all over with the tines of a fork about ten times, then bake the tart shell in the oven at 410F for 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and if there are any sizable cracks, use the bit of reserved dough to fill in and patch them.
  9. I find it best to pinch off a small amount of the reserved dough, roll it gently between your fingers to soften it, then wedge it into the cracks, smoothing it gently with your pinky.
  10. Let the shell cool before filling.

Pumpkin Filling (recipe from Martha Stewart)

15 ounces (1 can) pumpkin puree

1 cup heavy cream

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1tsp coarse salt

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground ginger

1/4 tsp allspice

2 large lightly beaten eggs

  1. Preheat oven to 325F.  Whisk together all of the ingredients.
  2. Pour into your prepared pie tart crust.
  3. Place dish on a rimmed baking sheet.  Bake, rotating halfway through, until filling is set and slightly puffed but still a little wobbly, approx 55-60 minutes.
  4. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely. Refrigerate uncovered for at least 6 hours. Serve chilled, with whipped cream or ice cream! It will keep for 2 days.

I use my AWESOME instant whipped cream maker to make the whipped cream.  I *love* that thing.

A delicious pumpkin tart recipe

I decorated it with some pumpkin seeds too.  You can impress your friends with this pumpkin tart, and frankly, I thought it was easier to make than the pumpkin pie (no explosions this year!).

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m sharing with you this year’s Thanksgiving table!  This year I was inspired by the cornucopia… while I don’t have a cornucopia, I was thinking of elements that may be inside.  So I turned to the Fall harvest and what is currently being harvested around me.

Natural Farmhouse Thanksgiving Table

That’s why I’ve called this the natural farmhouse Thanksgiving table.  The walnuts, pomegranates, pumpkins and eucalyptus are either from my garden or the farm just down the street. The pine cones are from a hike some time ago.

Natural Farmhouse Thanksgiving Table

The plates are one of my favorite Thanksgiving plate patterns… Spode’s “Woodland”. The goose plate was new this year.

I set up the pheasants flanking the grand ol’ turkey.

The little wheat stalks I just found at Napa Valley Vintage Home this past weekend.  I love the little size.

I keep the little bow on the turkey; it didn’t come with it.

Although I took this picture “for the blog”, based on Thanksgiving RSVPs, I need to squeeze just a few more place settings in!

One last look at this table.  I’ve really grown to like it and will miss it when I take it down. Although, I’m excited already thinking about the Christmas table!

The Crown

Did anyone else start watching The Crown this past weekend? I did! I didn’t binge watch it and finish the whole season like I know a lot of people probably did.

Have you ever of it? If not, it is about the life of Queen Elizabeth.

The TV show is on Netflix only and it is also the most expensive TV show ever made!  After seeing the costumes and sets, you will see why!!

If you are a fan of period dramas and are looking to fill your Downton Abbey void, this is for you!

Apparently the replica wedding dress cost $37,000 to make!

Hillsborough Antique Show
I had fun strolling the antique show last week.  Here are just a few pictures ( would have taken more, but I was busy browsing and not shooting pictures!) I liked this cat.

I thought this was a good idea for home decorators…. a plain lamp with an antler wrapped around it.

I liked this little vignette.

As I was doing some traveling for business this month, I finally had a chance to read this month’s Architectural Digest.  I read this wonderful article about this beautiful French Château that Flore de Brantes (a decorative arts dealer) has remodeled. I just HAD to share the pictures with you all.

The chateau was built in 1770 and is on 1400 acres! Don’t you love the tapestries below?

I love the powder blue of this room.  Not sure I am a fan of the gold trees, but the painting is marvelous!

I love the painted panels in the back… and don’t you like how the coffee table is actually an antique sundial?

Beautiful antique tapestries!

This fireplace mantel vignette is lovely.

 A beautiful chinoiserie desk!

Isn’t this lit à la polonaise wonderful?  I would love to have a little nook in the house for one of these!

Wouldn’t you love to have a cutting garden like this?

And here is a look down the driveway with the limestone pavilions lining the drive.

How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes!

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

So today I thought I would share a few simple ways to create a French country vignette for the holidays… and it should only take you a few minutes!

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes! It works for Fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day...

Start with a French Floral Centerpiece as a “base”

My focal point is this pretty bouquet of roses and seeded eucalyptus in a French pitcher.  Flanked on the sides to balance the scene are some antique French candelabras.  If you have a French teapot, vase, pitcher, etc just fill it with flowers and voila! Instant centerpiece!

French Country style frequently has flowers and floral motifs so a bouquet of fresh flowers is perfect!  Mix old things and new things. The pitcher here is new while the candelabras and French buffet are antique.

How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes! It works for Fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day...

Now that you have your “base centerpiece” as above, here is how you can change it for the holidays.

Fall

Add some white little pumpkins. That’s it! Done!  Your Fall decor does not have to be over-the-top. Just a few pumpkins here and there is enough.  These ones actually came from our garden. They are the only pumpkins that grew this year!

French Country Fall Decor ideas and How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes!

I told you it was easy and fast.  It still looks French Country, doesn’t it? This works for Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving.  You don’t have to choose pink flowers, I just happen to love pink.

French Country Fall Decor ideas and How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes!

Christmas

For Christmas, I simply went outside and cut a few small sprigs from our redwood trees.  I then tucked in a few little ornaments into the sprigs to make it a little more elegant.

French Country Christmas Decor ideas and How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes!

If you have any evergreens in your yard (or nearby), just clip a few little sprigs and you are pretty much done with this vignette!  This took me approximately 5 minutes, walking to and from the tree included!
(And, ironically, these pink ornaments just happened to be at the very top of the very first ornament box I opened! ha, what luck! Because that could have turned into an hour adventure!)

French Country Christmas Decor ideas and How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes!

Creating a French country vignette for the holidays is really quite easy.  You can copy the look with a white pitcher and fufu candlesticks too!  I think the key here to the French country holiday look is using natural elements.

Pretend you are walking out of your Maison de Maître into your garden to pick your flowers, pumpkins, and pine tree sprigs… you know, your French country style also needs to have the right attitude!

French Country Christmas Decor ideas and How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes!

Valentine’s Day

You can carry this into Valentine’s Day too.  I have these cute little French boxes that I set next to them… let’s pretend they are full of chocolates from my valentine! Also a little velvet bejeweled strawberry adds to the scene.

French Country Valentine's Day Decor ideas and How to Create a French Country Vignette for the Holidays in 5 minutes!

Overall, these different holiday vignettes were actually very cheap to create!  Most of the items came from the garden, and I could have simply picked some roses from my garden too but my pink ones aren’t blooming right now.  I owned all of the items already, so just go rummage through your closets (or “shop your house”) and create a little vignette!

Restoration Hardware and Aidan Gray Copycat Chandeliers

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Today’s post is about Aidan Gray Chandeliers and the copycat versions that Restoration Hardware has! I first realized a similarity in my French Farmhouse Tour post!  I erroneously thought the chandelier was Aidan Gray, but I was informed by the designer that it was actually Restoration Hardware.

As I am building a French farmhouse, I am extremely interested in lower cost copycats!

Then, some months later, my mom was looking at another chandelieand noted it was almost exactly the same as the Aidan Gray one.

Aidan Gray Copycat Chandeliers for Less by Restoration Hardware

So then I got to thinking, what other chandelier did Restoration Hardware (RH) copy?  I found several more!

I noticed two of the big differences: Aidan Gray puts a fancier light bulb in its chandeliers. Additionally, the paint/texture is different from each company. But either way, you’ll have to admit, they are very similar!

Example 1:

Restoration Hardware “Nataline” Chandelier (no longer produced).

Aidan Gray “Chateau Beaulieu” Chandelier – $1147

Example 2:

Restoration Hardware Acanthus Leaf $693 (member)

Aidan Gray “Grand Ane” Chandelier (affiliate) $1399

RH “Laurette” Chandelier $287

Aidan Gray “Garden” Chandelier (affiliate link) $420

Example 3:

 RH Baby “Emile” $481

Aidan Gray “Grenoble” Chandelier $1056

Edit: As someone mentioned in the comments and I forgot to include, Quorum’s “Salento” line looks pretty close to the Aidan Gray lights.  They are not *quite* as copycat as the RH versions, but very similar indeed.

Quorum “Salento” version, $296

example 4:

RH “Emile” Sconce $201

AG “Lafayette” Wall Sconce $281

Below is the Salento Wall sconce, it is $149.

To see all of the Quorum “Salento” lights, you can search here.

While I was on my little mission to find Aidan Gray copycats, I ran across the lantern below! WHOA!

These two look IDENTICAL.  I couldn’t figure out which one was which at first.  I wrote about the Darlana Lantern in this post, so I immediately recognized this design.  Visual Comfort also makes a Darlana Wall sconce, as below.

 RH “19th C. English Openwork Sconce” $296

Visual Comfort “Darlana Wall Sconce” (affiliate) $379

Disneyland during Halloweentime

Well, last weekend I went to Disneyland!  We spent 1 day there. It was a little weekend trip.  We met some family down there and had a blast.  The park was super crowded but that was okay.  Have you ever been during Halloweentime? If not, you should go. They decorate the park with pumpkins and it is super cute. See, look at it below (picture is from the Disney website!)

Thinking about Thanksgiving
So I have been dreaming of different tablescapes I could put together for the Thanksgiving table this year.  I love French Country Decor, so I was thinking, what is a French country Thanksgiving? Then it occurred to me, wait, Thanksgiving is actually extremely American.  Do they have Thanksgiving in France? No, of course not!  So perhaps the proper wording would be, French-Canadian Country Decor for Thanksgiving. As French speaking Canada celebrates Thanksgiving.  Well, whatever.
Now it seems silly to call my Thanksgiving table “French country”!

Is it time for Christmas yet???
I am SO EXCITED to decorate for Christmas but I promised my husband I wouldn’t decorate until after October 31.  Which means I can officially dig out my Christmas decor in just several days.  I see it creeping in the stores and I am trying not to buy things just yet because I have so many boxes I can’t even remember what I have!

I was thinking about getting a few of these cheap wreaths to hang in our window for outside decor.  I am going to string some lights in them.

Spotted… Diptyque Christmas Candles!!
I was shopping at Nordstrom’s this week when I spotted the Holiday limited editions of Diptyque candles!!!! Aren’t they SO ADORABLE. The boxes are fantastic all by themselves. Then you open them up and the candles are in vibrant colors with cute drawings on them! Just look at the gingerbread man below!
The red candle is épices et délices, which is a spicy gingerbread scent.  You can get the big one here and the little one here.  I bought this one mainly because I am a little obsessed with that gingerbread man.

The next candle is Le Roi Sapin… it smells of pine forest. You can get the big one here and the little candle here.  It smelled really good, but it did not beat my FAVORITE Christmas Pine Tree Candle which is Thymes “Frasier Fir”.

The last candle is Un Encens… it smells of vanilla, incense, and wood. You can get the big candle here or the little candle here. This one had a really nice scent, didn’t have an overpowering holiday scent to me.

There is a holiday trio gift set of all three candles here.
