In this post: Tips for building your dream home

10 Tips for Building your Dream House

 1. Start with your Appliances!

This seriously dictates *everything*.  My recommendation is to go into the appliance candy shop and pick out what you want.  That way, you know the exact size of kitchen you need, the exact place to put plumbing in, and the exact amount of wiring/electricity/power needed.  It is much easier to put in the appropriate amount of power NOW instead of later when you’ve put up the walls and say, oh hey, I want a built-in espresso machine only to find out you can’t because you didn’t think of it ahead of time!  My builder and so many of our contractors thought we were so smart in doing that!

2. Know what type of housing style you want!

It helps to make a Pinterest board or a board on Houzz to give your engineer/architect ideas of what you want. Otherwise if you say “farmhouse” their idea may be of traditional American farmhouse not Joanna-and-Chip farmhouse.

3. Your architect and engineer will mess up

You need to triple check your plans a hundred times with every time they make a change.  Remember how you said you wanted “X hall” 5 foot 6 inches so you can put a certain piece of furniture? Yeah, well they changed it. So you have to keep correcting them.  Otherwise that special piece may not fit!  They constantly changed things with every drawing! For me this was the most exhausting part. And then came time to framing… make sure the framer is framing what you want!  We modified the drawings the framer got because we were sick of making corrections with the engineer!

4. Know the building code!

For example: we learned we cannot have dual shower heads in our master after we already designed everything.  So great, right? Yeahhh still fuming about this…  Same with the driveway, oh surprise, driveway can’t be pretty crushed granite gravel, thanks fire department.  Outdoor lights have to have a light sensor on them, so maybe that antique light won’t work unless it is modified with a sensor. Knowing the building code ahead of time can allow you to plan for things like that. Don’t you love governments, telling us how to live?

5. Is this your ‘Forever’ home?

If so, you need to think about what were to happen if you are going to end up in a wheelchair? You need to have a bedroom with a full bath on the main floor – even if this isn’t your master bedroom of today, it might be the one of your 80s!  You need to make sure the door and hallway can accommodate a wheelchair, same with the shower and the toilet room. Laundry should also be in the main floor for that reason.  Get what I’m saying? You say, oh, well I won’t live here when I’m 80. What happens if you break a leg and need a wheelchair? Or you need to have hip/knee surgery? Same thing.

6. Pay attention to your HVAC system

Yeah, so… our architect and engineer did not think about the HVAC.  And apparently this is a very common thing per the HVAC man.  Our engineer put beams left and right where we would have run the HVAC. This has led to a massive headache. We have solved it (I think), but beware, this is a common problem.  HVAC is so important if you want to keep your house a comfy temp year round!

7. Budget

Your project can very easily go over budget. It is very easy to pick the most expensive of everything – it is much harder to find cheaper alternatives – BUT they are out there!  Get multiple bids for the same thing. You think the plumbing bid is high? Go get two others and find out.  For instance, the kitchen cabinets went over budget, so I cut back on cabinets in the laundry room.  Figure out where you want to spend your money and splurge there.  And FYI, the permit fees may be way higher than you expect.

splurge on the inset cabinets, save on the overlay.

8.  Plan. Plan. Plan.

PLAN! Plan for everything.  Think you might want a chandelier in this room but can’t afford one right now… plan to do a flush mount ceiling light that later can be easily changed into a chandelier.  You seriously need to think of everything. Do you think you want a floor plug in the floor? Yeah, you need to know BEFORE they pour the foundation.  Same with the plumbing. BEFORE the foundation.  Think you might want to put a TV possibly in the room with internet/cable/satellite? Wire that sucker before the sheetrock goes up.  Want to use that antique door or fireplace? Need to plan for that!

9.  Having Someone Tell You What You Need/Want

NO! This is your house, if you want a window flower box, GET the window flower box. Don’t let the eye rolls and grunts from your builder get in the way!  The only thing I did NOT get was a groin vault ceiling. It just wasn’t possible.  I am still sad about this. It just couldn’t work.  Remember, you are paying them to build what you want and you are the one that has to live there!

10.   It is a lot of work.

A LOT of work. That is an understatement.  Building a house is not meant for every one.  It is a second full time job.  It is stressful. It can tear apart marriages. The home shows make it seem easy.

Remember, it actually can be fun.

When things screw up (like um, the HVAC system), it is not worth it to me getting super angry about.  Why? Because I can’t redesign the whole house.  What’s done is done.

You must face the challenges given to you, and not stress about what should have been done, and do what can be done!

Easter is just around the corner and my bunnies have hopped on out of storage and into the house!

The bunny trio serves as the centerpiece for the Easter table this year.

I had to restrain myself and not buy more Easter plates and use the ones I have instead!

I used the same little nests I found at Roger’s Gardens some years ago but this year I stuffed little Lindt Easter chocolates into them!

Aren’t the little chocolates cute? Each of your guests gets a little treat when they sit down!

The carrot and vegetable garland are new this year and match the other carrots I already have!

I had to try not to buy any new Easter plates this year!

These ones are from Pottery Barn several years ago and sold out quickly.  The bottom plate is Juliska.

The little bunny carts pulling Easter eggs were a Pottery Barn find as well – they are filled with marble eggs.

Vintage French goblets add a nice pop of pink.

I could not stop taking pictures!

Are you decorating for Easter already?

Peloton Bike Review – 100 Rides Later!

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

I am so excited to finally give you a review of one of my favorite things to do – ride my Peloton bike!

I have had it since end of May last year, and this week I finally hit my 100th ride milestone!  With that said, I feel like I can now give you an insider’s look at the Peloton Bike!
PS – if you are wondering why it took so long to reach my milestone, it is because in the Summer I ride outside!
FYI – this is not a paid review. It is my own opinion on a bike I love!

I decided to purchase a Peloton bike after one of my coworkers raved about it.

What was funny was the night I brought it up to my husband – he laughed, and said he was going to talk to me about buying one too that day – and showed me on his iPad that he had the Peloton website up because he was going to talk to me about it!

So, great minds think alike!

So we purchased our bike and two weeks later it arrived.  They came and assembled it in my home and I was off and running, err, cycling.

What is the Peloton Bike?

It is an indoor spin bike that has a screen attached to it that allows you to watch spin classes “On-Demand” OR they have LIVE classes that allow you to join in on from your home bike during their live studio classes in NYC! How cool is that!?  Here is a 1 minute video introducing the bike.

So basically, you get to join studio spin classes from the comfort of your own home!  For me, this is what makes the bike so special.  I had a different cheaper spin bike without the fancy on-demand screen technology and I hardly ever used it.

But with this bike, my husband, Mother and I use almost every day between the three of us!  The classes are so motivating and allow you to get a great work out – frankly, even better than when I go on to the treadmill at the gym!

You have to pay $39/month to get the on-demand service but given that a gym membership per person is usually more than that OR a single spin class is about that price, it is really not that expensive.

The bike itself is not cheap – nearly $2K, but it is a high quality spin bike and that is about the price of the competitors bikes as well.  Here is a longer  5 minute video about the bike.

Here is another look at how the screen works.  The left side of the screen shows the live rides you can choose from with the schedule.  The right shows some of their thousands of classes you can choose from!

Let’s look at a ride I did last week.  You can analyze your ride… you can see where their were pushes and rests.  You can also look at your cadence, resistance, etc.  If you have a heart rate monitor you can hook it up.

The Bike Itself

The bike is carbon fiber with a smooth, quiet fly wheel. It is a clip-in bike that uses LOOK Delta clips so you can use any cycling shoe that is compatible with LOOK Delta clips.   This bike is top quality.  I have had a cheaper bike that cost around $400 and this bike is soooooo much nicer.

Below is a picture of my bike.  I consider my riding spot a French-Glam studio!

I had a spare piece of carpet that I put under the bike, but if you don’t have that, I strongly recommend buying a bike mat because the sweat does drip off of you!

The Classes

My favorite part of the bike, as I said, are the classes!  There are many different coaches and they have different coaching styles as well as different skill levels.

The are beginner classes, HIIT classes, TABATA classes, Climb Classes, Arms & Legs classes, Pro Cycling, Scenic Rides, Themed classes and more! Additionally they have them for all sorts of ride lengths – 10 min cool down rides to 90 min power rides.

Additionally, they now have off-the-bike training programs, which is super cool!  They have yoga, weight training, stretching, core training, etc! You can sort by class type, demonstrated below:

You can read about all of the coaches here, but these are my favorite coaches:
Alex- usually does Hip-Hop rides and his motto is: “Feel Good. Look Good. Do Better” and I love it!
Robin- she is energetic, plays hip-hop music too, and frequently plays a game called “Robin Says”… which usually involves lots of sweat.

Cody – his rides are usually to the beat of the music, so he doesn’t always give you the specific cadence, instead stating “one-two” to the beat of the music. He usually plays pop songs!

Hannah – She does tons of themed rides which is so much fun.

I actually do like all of the coaches, but these are the ones I do most of my rides with partially because of music preferences.

There is really no bad coach, just like people you meet in person, you will find ones that seem to fit with your groove more than others! And by groove I mean, music preferences!

When you purchase the bike, you have to buy one year of classes and after that it is up to you! But the classes are the really the reason to buy the bike.

my favorite shirt I bought from Peloton with Alex’s motto on it! It is sold out now.

Adjusting the Bike and Clipping on/off with your Shoes

The peskiest part of this bike is getting in and out of the clips!  I don’t think clipping in is very difficult, but getting out of the bike is a little tricky!
I always get in and out of the bike the same way.

Clipping in is easy – just point your toe downwards and then rock back onto your heel and you’ll hear a  “clip!”.  Then swing your other leg over and do the same.

Clipping out of the bike is tricky.  I start with my right foot and if looking down at it while on the bike, turn it inwards towards the 9 o’clock positions while moving your heel towards the 3 o’clock position “clip!”. Then repeat. Here is a video on how to do this.

Also, since three of us ride the bike, we are constantly adjusting our seat.  We actually all keep the handle bars the same height. It is not too hard to move the seat up and down and back and forth.  This video shows how you can adjust your bike to your needs.

When you first get your shoes, you need to make sure you have your clips properly positioned on your shoe so when you ride your foot is in the right alignment!  Here is a video on how to attach your cleats to your shoes!  Every so often I tighten my clips up so they don’t wiggle around using a screwdriver! Peloton also sells spin shoes.

Here are the shoes I wear and the clips I bought:
My shoes

Look Delta Clips – you need to buy these too and screw them into your shoe to use the bike.

Favorite Gear and Essentials for your Ride!

Clothing appropriate for spinning
You must have tight fitting pants/shorts because otherwise it will get caught in the bike and you don’t want that. My favorite leggings are pictured below, the Alo Moto leggings. Lots of celebs wear these.
I love Zella leggings.  Here is a high waisted cropped version, a high waisted leggings.

Water Bottle
There is room for two water bottles and depending on the class length I may use both!  Staying hydrated is extremely important for this high intensity class! My current favorite is the Hydroflask. I like this glass one, this metal one, this plastic one.

Fan
You HAVE to have a fan.  I have an old fan, but if I were to get a new one I would get one with a remote control!
Wind Tower Fan with Remote Control (pictured below under $50),
Holmes Remote Control Power Fan that Rotates (12″, under $50),
Honeywell Air Circulator Fan (Amazon’s #1 bestseller for under $20!)

Heart Rate Monitor
So I strongly suggest using a heart rate monitor.  I actually use my Apple Sport Watch as I don’t need to see my HR on my bike.  The Fitbit can now connect to the bike as well as that is what my mom uses, read about that here.
Any heart rate monitor that is ANT+ compatible works with this bike. The Apple Watch is not ANT+ compatible so it doesn’t sync with the bike.
Below is the Apple Watch I have and I LOVE it!
This is the Peloton Heart Rate Monitor  which I currently use and love that it tracks my heart rate on the bike itself.  The apple watch actually gets the same readings as the Peloton HR monitor but the apple watch can’t currently sync with the bike as of yet.

Weights
Weights for a bike?! YES! Many of the rides also include a section of arms!
I started off with 1 pound weights (yeah, I’m a wimp!) but now I am up to a 3 pound weight!
Dumbbells, Set of 2, 3-Pound (Green) under $10 (I can’t find the ones I have anymore!).
Here are the ones I started with:Dumbbells, Set of 2, 1-Pound (Pink).
Here is 5lb: Dumbbells, Set of 2, 5-Pound (Dark Blue).
They recommended starting with 1 or 3 pounds because the moves are very repetitive so lighter weights with many repetitions is better than heavier weights with a few repetitions.

Towel/Mat
I strongly recommend getting a bike mat because the sweat will literally drip off of you!  The mat goes under the bike.  We have an old piece of scrap carpet but if we didn’t have that we would get the mat! Also, you will need a towel.
Here is a similar mat for cheaper and the one that I actually use: Equipment Mat

Extras

I love using a headband to wick away sweat!  I use this headband.

When I’m all done with my work out, I spray the area over with my Baies room spray because while enjoy having a home gym, I don’t want it to smell like a gym!

But… I Have Never Done Spinning Before!

That’s what my mom said! We got her a pair of shoes at Christmas and now she loves it!  I used to go to spin class for several years but fell off the bandwagon when I moved and I couldn’t find a gym close enough with a spin class.

If you are unsure about it, what you can do is join the iOs App.  This way you can full access to the content without committing with $2k.  One of my friends did this- she bought a cheaper bike and then uses her iPad to stream the classes.

Here are showrooms around the country where you can test out the bike.  Here is their FAQs page for more info.

I hope you enjoyed my Peloton review.  Basically the only downside is the cost – but IMO, it was well worth it!

The Daily Harvest

Have you heard of the Daily Harvest? I had not until earlier this year when one of my coworkers introduced me to it.

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

What is it?

It is a subscription service of ready to blend Smoothies and ready to heat Soups – for those that are smoothie obsessed this is for you! They are delivered right to your door front! WHAT!

How Does it Work?

You select one of three plans – you can have 6 or 12 cups sent you to weekly or 24 for the month!

Who is For?

Smoothie obsessed, those trying to diet – some of the smoothies are 90 calories per cup and others 400 – depends on what you are looking for.

What I liked about it was that it had interesting ingredients that I would not normally blend together. All of them were super tasty!  They were a little pricey ($7 per cup) but for those on the go… it is nice. They tasted super fresh and were super healthy!

Below is how the smoothie arrives in the cup. I added almond milk to blend mine together.

Here’s what it looks like

Below is the Zucchini and Black Garlic soup which was SO GOOD. And it is perfect for this looking to go on a diet. And it was filling. Can you tell I loved it??

If you would like to join, I can refer you by clicking here – you will get two free smoothies by joining through my referral and so will I!

PS – They did not pay me to write this.  I just thought it was cool and wanted to share it with you!

Garden Shoes

As it is now finally feeling like Spring I am finding that I need a pair of garden shoes – something to get through the mud but not that I need a pair of boots as it is warming up outside!

I previously was wearing my LL Bean Boots or my Hunter boots but I find they are not so easy to just slip on and off when running in and out of the house.

Spring Shoes

Anyway, while I was browsing online, I ran into some fabulous shoes.

LOVE these sandals below! Love love love.

I was scrolling online trying to find a knock-off pair, but instead I find another drool worthy pair. A beautiful pair of floral espadrilles!

Although these ones look very similar to the Chanel ones.

Spotted…

I found this almond flour at Costco and it is a good deal! Perfect for macaron bakers or those who are gluten-free!

On the Tele

Victoria

Did you watch the season finale of Victoria last week?

I have been enjoying this show and I just looked up today that it is indeed renewed for a second season that will start approx 6 weeks after this season’s finale.  It will be 8 episodes long and have a two hour Christmas special as well!!

Chef’s Table

I looove watching the documentary series on Netflix called Chef’s Table.  Have you heard of the show?  It is about chefs, most of whom have won James Beard awards or Michelin stars, etc and their journey into cooking and their attitude towards food. It is very interesting and the food on the camera is so beautiful my mouth waters when I watch it!!

Game of Thrones

It was announced today that Game of Thrones Season 7 won’t premiere until July 16 on Sunday!  Why the late start? They needed to film in the snow (um, spoiler, Winter is Here) and couldn’t film in the middle of Summer!

How to Create a Romantic Reading Nook

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

This is one of the spots in my house that I like to sit and read a book.

This post may contain affiliate links.

It is perfect because there is natural light from the window.  There are also two chairs to sit in – one if you are feeling like you need to have good posture (the antique French chair) – or a couch that you can lay back and relax on.

Creating your own romantic reading nook is simple.

You just need a pretty throw, some flowers (fresh or faux!), a nice smelling candle, and a cup of tea or coffee!

I have here one of my favorite flowers – ranunculus. I didn’t use them too frequently until when I used them in my wedding bouquet – now they are one of my favorites!

I am burning my absolute favorite candle – Baies. The smell of roses fills the air.  There is a cheaper copycat version of my favorite candle here – and yes, I use this one too!

I have a teacup here too – a vintage one, but you can use any mug or cup!

This French table was one of my first antiques I bought right out of college – my Mom was surprised when I gravitated towards this Louis XV style table with gilding!!

The lamp by the way just has an antique Staffordshire figure sitting on the base. It is not attached.

Here are a few of my favorite books that I have been reading…

A Day in the Life with Marie Antoinette
This book is a gorgeous book (the one that is in my pictures above). If you love Versailles or Marie Antoinette Style you have to check out this book!

Traditional Interiors by Leta Austin Foster

I love her work as an interior designer. If you love Traditional style with a touch of English, French, or Gustavian – this book is for you!

Beautiful by Mark Sikes
He runs a very popular blog and he came out with this book that every one is praising about. For me, it is not quite *my* style but the book is beautiful nonetheless!

Macarons by Pierre Herme
If you love macarons as much as me, you have to try this book! I just bought it and am eager to make my first recipe!

Spring Table Setting

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Spring is one of my favorite times of year.  I realized as I wrote that I say that for every season/month! Except January.

I thought this Spring table added a bit of cheer… I don’t know about where you are living but here in California our flowers are blooming!

This post may contain affiliate links meaning I make a few cents when you click

My garden has daffodils, muscari, and trees blooming. Tulips are not just yet, but the flower market’s tulips are in!

I thought these blooming tree branches went well with the placemats that we made.

I love the colors of Spring – pinks, blues, yellows, and Spring greens!

I placed a muscari stem on each individual napkin.

I don’t think I have ever set a table with tree branches nor have I used my Country Estate vase!

The goblets are vintage French and I love the pink!

I love the height that the branches add to the room since the room does not have a chandelier!

I also love bud vases! The one from the left is from France and the one to the right is the top piece of my tulipiere!

The eucalyptus branches have been hanging around for a while – they have since dried but still add some nice color to the table!

The daylight was so beautiful today that I could not stop taking pictures.

Just a little Spring table I set for myself and husband to enjoy… we aren’t having a party. Do you set the table for yourself?

After the photo shoot I collected all of the muscari blossoms and stuck them into this bud vase so I can enjoy them longer!

I’d love it if you would pin this!

The only thing I care about the Oscars is the fashion.

I love the gowns that the actresses wear and I think it is because they are extremely nice handmade textiles!

Our first look is this Givenchy dress worn by Emma Stone.  The fringe skirt looked beautiful as she moved.  Although to be honest, I felt like she played it a little safe – I was hoping for something a little more adventurous from Emma Stone given her Oscars look from 2015.

Ruth Nega wore this beautiful Valentino in the perfect shade of red.  This is a very Victorian look and something I would expect to see on English rose Keira Knightley.  It seems people are either on the love it or hate it list with this dress!

This Stella Mccartney dress worn by Karlie Kloss immediately had me thinking of that Tom Ford that Gwyneth Paltrow wore several years ago.  This dress is wonderful but it seems a bit copycat to me!

Below, the original gown!

Nicole Kidman is wearing a beautiful bejeweled Armani Prive dress. Normally I am not a fan of such a pale color on pale skin, but she looks fabulous in this dress!

Taraji Henderson looks absolutely stunning in this Alberta Ferrerti.

Jessica Biel wowed in this bold and gold Kaufman Franco number. I love that Tiffany necklace – very different and interesting!

Viola Davis look fabulous in this red Armani Prive dress.

Brie Larson’s sad face is ruining this beautiful Oscar de la Renta dress in velvet.

This Elie Saab dress worn by Janelle Monae reminded me of a dress from the 1700s! I actually liked it as it is interesting to look at; although I am not a huge fan of the see-through top, I do appreciate all of the detail that went into making the dress.

I think though I preferred it as it was shown on the runway without the exaggerated hips!

My Favorite dress

This Dior dress worn by Kirsten Dunst is my favorite! If it looks like it is a retro gown… it’s because it is! The design is from the 1950s!  You can see how her one-of-a-kind gown was made here.

I love the way she was styled – messy hair, red lips, interesting necklace.

The Guys…

Mahershala Ali looks stunning in this all black Ermenegildo Zegna tux.

Justin Timberlake looks great in this perfectly tailored Tom Ford.

Pharrell took a fashion risk and went with this old-fashioned styled Chanel tux.

Worst Dressed

We were scrolling through the photos and my husband and I burst out into laughter when we saw this.

Apparently this is a singer, Sia, who likes to keep her identity hidden. Mission Accomplished!

Coral and Persimmon Decor Inspiration

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

I have recently been inspired by the color palette of coral and persimmon.

I have been debating about painting the cabinets in the office kind of like so, in the picture below… with coral/persimmon interiors and either a shade of blue/grey or even black exterior!

This post may contain affiliate links meaning I make a few cents when you click.

Doesn’t it look pretty?

I love the way it makes a cabinet pop!

It is a little unexpected and kind of fun!

When I told my husband this, he asks me, “Are you okay? Are you ill?” because he knows how much I *hate* orange.

Yes, I’m fine I replied! I said the reason why it is interesting because most of the house decor is shades of blue, and this is the opposite side of the color spectrum, so adding hints of it here and there makes the blues look even better!

It can be used in modern rooms, like below…

Or in traditional rooms, like on the books and the chair below!

We could go bold and paint the entire bookcase like so, below:

Or more subtle with the accessories in the room adding the color…

Here are the various shades of coral and persimmon from Pantone.

I still like it best inside a cabinet though…

But I find myself even liking this color of accessories!

I don’t own *single* piece of orange-shade *anything* in my closet.

You see this color group usually looks terrible on me! But, a bracelet can’t look bad on me, right?

Hermes bracelet

Or a tote..

Gemini Tote – perfect for the beach

Clutch

Or some shoes… Coral Shoe

drool worthy…

Goyard…

Hermes blanket…

Actually, that reminds me… some of my favorite nail polish I wear on my toes is coral!

So I DO have one thing that I wear in that color group!

Finding French Country Style in the Napa Valley – Napa Valley Trip

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

One of my favorite day trips is to head to the Napa Valley.

Today we are focusing on finding French country style in the Napa Valley.

As you head into Napa, first you can stop off at this beautiful French inspired Chateau!

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

When I first saw this building I squealed in delight! For a moment I thought I was in France!  We did a U-turn and found ourselves at Domaine Carneros.  Yes, this is technically a Domaine and not a Chateau.  I blogged about the difference here. For a refresher, basically a Domaine is a Chateau with a vineyard!

The grounds were beautiful but unfortunately the interior of the Chateau was nothing special!

Although, they did carry chocolates from Angelina’s Paris, if you find yourself in a need for some!

They do have a terrace to sit and enjoy the view, and a little bar (of course) for those who drink wine.

Our next stop is in Yountville, at Bouchon Bakery.

There is *always* a line but it is worth the wait.

Word of advice – never buy a croissant after 11am.  Not just here, but *anywhere*.

Hmm…. which sweet do you pick out?

We *always* get a pain d’epi baguette.  It is the BEST.  I could eat a whole loaf by myself.  I strongly recommend you stop here.

There is also Bouchon Bistro – a great place to get lunch and dinner and then the famous three-michelin star French Laundry restaurant.  All of these are by Thomas Keller.

Our next French inspired stop is Peju Winery.

Isn’t the building so cute?

 I loved their entrance gates!

And their garden statues. This leads to a little Koi pond.

During this time of year the mustard is in full bloom. Even Winter in Napa is beautiful!

The tulip tree was blooming… I just love this tree! Aren’t the blooms beautiful?

After Peju, head to Dean & Deluca, a gourmet food grocery.  They carry Mariage Freres Tea, amongst many other specialty items.

Next, we do some shopping in St. Helena.

This horse head has been sitting in this antique shop in St. Helena for a long time, and every time I go I stare it at it… but it is too expensive!

One of my must-stop shops in Olivier Napa Valley. They carry Pillivuyt and many other French products!

Some glasses came home with me…

I smelled a bunch of these soaps. Isn’t the antique butchers block neat?

Yes I brought home some plates too…

Next, let’s head to Napa Valley Vintage Home.

I LOVE this shop. Below is a collection of Astier de Villate.

A collection of Cire Trudon candles. I always smell them all when I am there!

Grab a sandwich either at Model Bakery or my FAVORITE sandwich shop (ever!!!), Giugni’s. If you are eating a Giugni’s, you must bring cash!

There is a little park nearby, you can take your sandwich and have a picnic or take your sandwich to a beautiful winery and have a little picnic there.

Next, head up to Calistoga to Calistoga Country Antiques (1117 Lincoln Ave).

Now, open the windows up and enjoy the scenery on your trip home.
