Every year I put together a Holiday Gift Guide.  This year I am focusing on For the Home.  Last year I made one for the glamorous girl.

Christmas/Holiday Gift Guide for the Home

Briard “Parfum de la Douceur Soap” – A French soap from a perfume house from the 18th century, each is packaged in original advertisements. This one smells of violet, mimosa and tonka bean. I confess it made the list because of the packaging!

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Nespresso Machine – I *love* my Nespresso. I love it so much I’ve actually had two machines.  I bought an entry-level one such as below, and have upgraded since. I actually have this machine with the steam wand.  They are so easy to use – you just put a coffee pod in and it makes a shot of espresso. Then I use their milk frother to make myself a latte. So much better than Starbucks, and in the long run, much cheaper too!

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Boxwood wreath – A classic for year round decorating!

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Picture Frame with Swarovski Crystals  – I have always loved Olivia Riegel’s picture frames. Perfect for a very special picture!

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Baies Candle – My favorite candle and it always makes the list because it is that good! Smells of roses of black currant leaves.

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Rabbit Ears Doorstop – I saw this door stop and thought it was just so cute! I have not seen a cuter door stop! Everyone can use a door stop.

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Leather Jewelry Box – This leather jewelry box looks like a cute little piece of luggage.  You can leave it on display!

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Staub Round Cocotte 2.75qt – We LOVE cooking in our Staub cocotte! It is perfect for so many different things. It comes in a variety of colors too.

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Silk Fortuny Pillows  – What’s not to love about silk Fortuny pillows? Yes they are pricey, but they will hold their value!

Faux flowers – these faux silk roses are lovely.

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Vintage Books – Perfect for a book lover. Great for little vignettes around the house.

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Kitchen Towels – A great hostess gift. My favorite color are these French Blue, but you can get them in any color here.

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home

Lidded Tea Cup – This lidded tea cup caught my eye because it looks so cool! I love the geometric pattern and the cute top! I don’t know if I’d want a set of these, but one for use and display when not-in-use!

Christmas Gift Guide for the Home
Mariage Freres Esprit De Noel Tea – My favorite Christmas tea, made from Mariage Freres in Paris. It has mandarin orange, cinnamon, almond, orange and Bourbon vanilla.  As that tea is hard to come by, my next favorite Christmas tea is Comfort and Joy by Republic of Tea.

Happy Thanksgiving week!  This week I am inspired by Mark Sikes’ classic Thanksgiving table.  I love his all white color scheme that pops against the blue wallpaper in his dining room. Photos by Lonny.

5 Tips on How to be a Great Thanksgiving Guest – Thanksgiving Etiquette

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

I’ve made a list of some great tips for proper Thanksgiving etiquette as a guest – perfect for the big day later this week!

Arrive on time – As you may imagine, your host is going to be running around like a chicken, err, turkey with their head cut off.  Don’t add onto the pressure by showing up early and making them entertain you too.  I know it is fashionable to show up, well, fashionably late, but this is the one time I would say do not do that!  The host has things baking in the oven and with this meal timing is everything!

farmhouse thanksgiving decor

Bring Something – Even if the host says not to bring anything, a small hostess gift is still appropriate. You can bring a little bouquet of flowers, a bottle of wine, a candle, a Starbucks gift card, a little box of chocolates.  Something small.  If the host didn’t ask for a specific dish, don’t bring one.  But everyone loves flowers, and most people like drinks.  Whatever you do, do not bring a casserole.  If you do decide to bring a dish of yours without asking the host, make sure that you bring all of the ingredients and utensils you need to assemble and serve it.  Also assume there is no space in the microwave or oven available for you to heat it up.

Farmhouse thanksgiving

Notify your host of dietary restrictions beforehand – Before the big dinner day, if the host has not asked about dietary restrictions, politely mention if you are pescatarian/vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free/food allergy etc.  Do not mention it on the big day and then proceed to sulk about how there’s nothing for you to eat and also be annoying about it.  No one wants to hear about your paleo/gluten-free/meat-free/carb-free whatever diet you’re on with every bite that you are having! If they offer you their famous pumpkin cheesecake, just smile and have a bite or take a tiny serving and shove it around your plate… unless you are truly allergic! Catch my drift? There’s a right way to be polite about your dining preferences and a wrong way.

Farmhouse Thanksgiving

Keep Your Phone Tucked Away – You are not invited over for a feast so we can all watch you sit on your phone.  One of the major themes about Thanksgiving is sharing and being together – so be with everyone that’s there and keep your phone away!  We are there to chat with you in person, not to watch you chat with others online in front of us!

Help out – Ask the host if they need help.  This includes before, during, and after the dinner is served! Be astute – if the crackers are running low in the dip tray, say “do you want me to refill the crackers?” or after dinner, offer to rinse some dishes.  Assisting with cleaning up the mess is literally the best thing you can do as a guest to help your host!  The host will be exhausted and having to clean up the mess can be daunting.

Best Scented Christmas Candles for this Holiday Season

I love burning scented candles year round, but I especially love burning them during the holidays.  This list of Christmas candles are the candles you are really wanting to buy for yourself, but are also hoping someone may buy for you! They make great gifts and especially hostess gifts!

Since I burn a candle nearly nightly, I burn through a lot of candles.

Christmas Candles You Need NOW for your Holiday Home!

How many times have you opened a Christmas candle only to quickly recover it with the lid while making a face?

Well, with these Christmas candles that I am sharing with you, I promise you that you should not be making a Mr. Yuck face!

Let’s just start it out with my favorite Christmas candle-

The Best Scented Christmas Candles You Need Now!

Thymes Frasier Fir The scent of Siberian Fir needles with cedar wood and sandalwood create a just-cut forest fragrance that evokes warmth and comfort.  If you love pine-scented candles, this is by far the absolute best one out there today that smells just like freshly cut tree! Here is theUnder $20 candle if you want to try it! I also have the reed diffuser which I bought several seasons ago.  I use the Frasier Fir Reed Diffuser Oil Refill to refill it for a fraction of the cost of the diffusers themselves. I like to place them throughout the house so it smells like Christmas, such as in the guest powder room and the living room!

The Best Scented Christmas Candles You Need Now!

Holiday by NEST, with notes of pomegranate, mandarin orange, pine, cloves and cinnamon with a hint of vanilla and amber! If you are not into pine scents, this is my favorite non-pine-scent Christmas candle!

The Best Scented Christmas Candles You Need Now!

Illume Balsam and Cedar. Another great pine scented candle. Balsam and oak moss with notes of cedar wood, cinnamon and eucalyptus create a festive atmosphere. I have never burned it because everytime I have tried to buy it it has been sold out in the bigger size!

The Best Scented Christmas Candles You Need Now!

Winter Frost.  It smells of white birch, evergreen needles, sage, clementine, green moss, and clear amber.

The Best Scented Christmas Candles You Need Now!

Joy of the Season. It smells of apple, clementine, orange zest, pinot noir, grape, clove, cinnamon, tea leaves, vanilla bean, white musk. Another great non-pine scent for the holidays.

The Best Scented Christmas Candles to Make Your Holiday Home Smell Wonderful!

Feu de Bois by Diptyque  It smells just like a wood-burning fire.  I had it on my Fall candle list too, but I use it through the Winter as well!

Diptyque Holiday 2019 – This set of 3 has the limited edition holiday scents: Ambre Félicité’ is warm and floral, ‘Flora Fortuna’ has a spicy bouquet, while ‘Pin Protecteur’ conjures the fresh air of pine forests.

Branche Vermeil by Voluspa: Notes of Silver Cypress, Cedar, Pine Needles. How cute is the candle jar?

Voluspa – Crushed candy cane. Smells just like peppermint! The jar is adorable! They also have a small stocking stuffer version!

Thanksgiving Table Ideas Inspired from Weddings

Weddings are full of beauty and we can continue to draw inspiration from them even if we are not getting married! Let’s take a look at some wedding tables and how we can use them in our own Thanksgiving tables!

Use Metallic Tones

This beautiful table consists of beautiful shades of gold and silver.  I think most of us having various pieces of gold and silver toned and it is okay to mix and match them!

The use of a copper charger adds a fun Fall twist to this table.

Add Fruit to Your Centerpiece

Now this is my favorite way to decorate for Thanksgiving as you can see here!  I love adding fruit to the centerpiece as Thanksgiving as it reminds me that we are in the season of harvest.  I love the use of persimmons tucked into the roses and peonies below.

I love the use of berries and various fruits as name card holders here.  The white hydrangeas and roses are refreshing as well.

The pomegranates in this floral arrangement are perfect for your Thanksgiving table.  Also, do you spy some Fall leaves tucked in there? You can just pick out some from your own yard and add them to your centerpiece!

Use Jewel Tones

I love the deep hues of these flowers in the pictures.  Using jewel tones for your Thanksgiving table is an easy way to transition into the Christmas season.

Use Pumpkins as Place Card Holders

Have little pumpkins left over from Halloween? Use them as place card holders! I love how this pretty French blue ribbon is attached to the pumpkins.

Using metallic tones and jewel tones are perfect for your Thanksgiving table.  I also love the use of fruit in the centerpiece.  Usually by Thanksgiving I am kind of burned out from pumpkins, so I like the idea of just using them as place cards holders as above.

Decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving – In a Subtle Way!

decorating for christmas before thanksgivingWe use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Ah yes, the never-ending debate.  Should you decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving or save it until after the pumpkin pie and turkey are gobbled up?

I have a tip for you on how to introduce Christmas decor before Thanksgiving without being obtrusive.

decorating for christmas before thanksgiving

Just introduce a little greenery here and there.  Above, I have some boxwood topiaries.  You may have spotted in the background a garland too.

Adding a garland is a nice subtle way to introduce Christmas decor subtly before Thanksgiving without being offensive!

decorating for christmas before thanksgiving

I recommend putting up a garland that isn’t full of poinsettias and bright reds.  Pick something more natural.  Faux or real.

French country Thanksgiving

Then I decided to put the turkey in the center of this breadboard.  The topiaries are a bit more Christmas (although frankly, I use them year round!).

French country Thanksgiving

The turkey is clearly Thanksgiving.

I have always decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving.  I find that it takes me such a long time to put out all of my decor that I want to enjoy it just a bit longer.

I confess I usually start putting up my Christmas decor around Veteran’s Day weekend.  But I take it down pretty much on New Years. I know some people leave it up longer.

I find decorating early helps me when I go shopping as there are many Christmas sales and open houses on Veteran’s Day weekend.  I want to know what I have so when I go shopping I don’t buy things that I already have and that aren’t cohesive.
